Your opinion is duely noted and you can go and troll the goldwing sites if you like.

But then it would not be an RX ( rotary sport, or Rotary eXperimental as some call it. ) then it would just be an MX ( motor sport )
I am not completely up on how Mazda names them, but isn'y the what RX stands for - Rotary

This car was built around the rotary, not the other way around. Thats why it has 50/50 (weight) , thats why it has great turn in (sits far back), that why you cant flip the damn thing (sits low). This motor that you hate so much is the reason why you love the 8 so much.....

For me, it was the rotary that got me to buy it. I think ford should use the platform and put the 2.3 turbo disi in it. That would make for a cool car. But it's all about the name mazda and the rotary that does it for me. Maybe the disi in the miata would be good way to go, call it the mazdaspeed mx5

Please never mention Ford and RX together. Ford only owns a part of mazda, and they have NOTHING to do with the rotary. I do not know about your car, but mine was made in JAPAN. Last time I checked, ford plants are in USA, Canada and Mexico.

Sorry, not a Ford car fan. Love their trucks, but please do not call my RX a Ford car.

Whew - had to get that out. I feel better now

For a serious response, the rotary engine made the packaging of the RX-8 possible. A piston engine would make the car heavier and larger. Though I'm a lightness first type of guy, I much prefer the rotary to a piston engine. Lighter with a piston engined would give me some thought, but heavier with a piston engine; well it won't even be considered.

The horn on the RX-8 is made by Ford.

Dude, I was just saying ford should use their platform. Those guys are in enough hot water as it is right now. Ford should never have anything to do with the rotary.

No worries, I just had to vent. Had a honda owner try to start a battle over the ford/mazda thing.

Yep, because I like the horn on the 8 and I think it is funny that it is the only Ford part on the car. I think I seen something under the hood that is Mitsubishi as well.

DAMN IT!!!!! Now I am gonna think of Ford every time I hit the lock button twice. Or every time someone cuts me off on the road!!!! JEEZ!!!!! So I just found out what my first mod is gonna be. . . . . Slicing the wire to the horn!!!

Doesn't matter who owns what now. Its Japanese technology, and it doesn't matter where its built. You want to buy an american car, but a Toyota. Toyota plant (Numi) is right down the street from one of my offices in Fremont CA. So I say Toyota is made in the USA with Japanese engeneering. Doesn't matter these days what brand your buying both cars Japanese and American both have parts made in both places in the cars. If that makes any sense. I am a blue oval boy my self. I know some of you hate fords but my 03 Cobra was awesome. Im a true car enthusiast so I like a little of both worlds.
The reason there hasn't been more rotaries out there is because Mazda is the only company that sunk so much money into the technology. There was A Corvette with a rotary if Im not mistaken but GM's pockets werent deep enough to put more fundage into research and development to produce a new rotary.

Yes, if the car remained balanced and revved to 9000 RPM's.

From what I understand that motor would not work in the 8. The rotary is very small and set back for a true sportscar feel. That would be lost. Maybe it would work in the miata. Would you buy a miata if that engine were offered? I personally would not buy the 8 if it had the speed 3 engine. I perfer the rotary. It offers so much more to the driving experience of a sportscar. The gas mileage isn't poor enough to make it a factor. That's not what top notch sportcars are about anyway. The 8 is very affordable considering it's superb engineering.

Why would Mazda want to compete against itself?

A turbo 4-cylinder in the (it would then be called the MX8, not RX8, most likely) would make it the "sedan" version of the MS3, or the "sedan" version of the Mazdaspeed Miata. That would directly pull sales from both of those cars, and would lose the Rotary die-hard segment of fans...which I consider to be a fairly big bunch of people, just look at the RX8 sales..

But I would buy a Miata if it had the Renesis. In fact I would seriously consider trading the RX-8 for a Renesis equipped PRHT Miata. (Yes, I know a company in Germany has built a Renesis Miata...)

About the Renesis Miata thing..

I think I'd rather modify the 8, even though it would be MUCH more extensive.

I need to try to do some drawings of what I mean..it would slim down in length, and be much shorter, too..

Wheel base would stay the same..

I just don't think I could ever see myself driving a Miata, except for pure race purposes..
