Would you get rid of it?

Would you get rid of it?
Seems that a lot of people are RX8 junkies. I am one of them. Their have been posts and discussions about the recalls, the deflated horsepower numbers, the gas mileage and so forth. But my question to you is.....despite all of that, would you think twice about getting one if you had to do it all over again. I for one, wouldn't. I am thankful to not have many of the issues that have plagued some owner's RX8's. (Knocking on wood) For those of you who have experienced problem after problem, then I can understand your pain.
Quiet frankly, I love my car. I especially love when perfect strangers, like parking lot attendants, boys who bag my groceries, Jiffy Lube attendants, little kids, parents...well you get what I mean. When they come up to me and say so many compliments about it's beauty, it's presence, it's color... I eat it up. I think RX8 is one of the most gorgeous automobiles that's ever been produced.
So again...would ya?
I would.

Yep. No doubt. I love my 8. It's my first rotary but it won't be my last. The total and complete uniqueness of the vehicle is too compelling for me.
If a dumpster fell on it today, I'd be driving a new one tomorrow

Interesting question:
I've had nothing but problems with the car.....yet I still really like it. I had this confirmed this week when I had my car in the shop this time for leak around one of the fuel injectors.
My dealer gave me a CX7 to drive. This is the second time around with that vehicle. On a side note I must say that I really hate the turbo lag on the CX7. It would be a much better car with a V6.
Anyway, I'm starting to get used to the CX7 and thinking, I could drive one of these on a daily basis. Then I get my car back and realize that I'm really going to miss driving this car when my lease is up and she goes back. I love the engine despite the lack of power....and I re-discovered the cool view overlooking the hood from the driver's seat. The interior is just miles ahead of the CX7 too.
Would I get another RX8? Only if they do some upgrading to it. The sad thing is I can’t decide what to get next. I'm thinking G35 but I still don’t know.

Definitely, no other car like it on the road, some people think its as expensive as some luxury cars out there cost 35K ++ (I know some have paid that much for a loaded RX-8)...but still people think its some exotic thing that cost much more than it is. Love the fact, that it takes a certain person to pony up for an RX-8 based on its "bad" rumors. I love the fact that this car gets stares like what is that esp from non enthuiasts and the like. People just dont expect it to be a Mazda.
The rotary has its pros and cons and researching and going into it,,,one should know what they are getting and what they are getting themselves into. Its really great actualy when people ask u, how many cylinders it has? and you tell them it doesnt' have any cylinders and theyre like huh? what dumb founded look on their face, all confused. and you tell them it has a rotary and theyre like what is that?! lol and you try to explain to them what it is and you just tell them to google it haha...cause theyre still confused to what it looks like and how it functions.
I could care less really for the gas mileage issue or the HP numbers, i didnt buy the car for HP numbers or gas mileage, i bought it for the driving experience.

I, for one, would never get rid of my RX-8. Even if I won the lottery, I would keep it (although I would add a turbo onto it to make it a little faster). I don't think there are 10 other cars that are currently in production and sold in the US that are as much fun (I find this car much more enjoyable than the 350Z, Mustang, etc).
The fact that this car is one of the best handling stock cars under $60,000 makes me beam. I love entering the highway on a tight 270 degree turn and flooring it all the way through (speed limit is 20, and I hit around 60 with no tire squeal). It could use a little more power in the lower RPM spectrum, but once you get it up to 7 - 9 k, hold on!
Interior wise, top notch. Everything looks extremely high quality, and I love the two tone leather and door panels (GT edition).
The only thing I am going to do to the car in the upcoming months is add a REV8 exhaust. The tailpipes on the stock exhaust are too small (I love the look on the 350Z. The exhaust on that thing makes it look badass!), and while I loved the jet sound of the car when I first got it, I have since gotten used to it....I would like a little more grumble.
Also, I'm not sure why, but my car does not burn any oil. Everyone always says that you have to check the oil every 500 - 1000 miles, but my car never needs any. I would say I have to add a quart every 2,000 miles, but that's it.

I was active on this board for over a year before I took the plunge and if I had it to do all over again, I'd do it in a second!! (even though my car is back in the shop again today: new motor mounts)
I think the strangest thing about my 8 is the sheer attachment I've developed with it over the past years or so. I'm sitting here at work just waiting to get the call that my car is done and I can get back in it, feel wrapped in those seats, and can't wait to start it up and rev the engine.......pure bliss.

Mine is in service as we speak for the recall. Even if it needs a new engine I would not go back in time and change my mind. Hp was never an issue since I previously drove POS cars, but now i'm addicted to power and thirst for more. I have come to accept it has plenty enough to pass soccer moms and mack trucks; a primary concern when I bought it.
I thought eventually, I'd get tired of it but it has been over a year and that has never crossed my mind. I'm in the CX-7 loaner now. I want my damn car back!

First new car I've purchased, and a week short of my 2-year anniversary it's already having it's engine replaced. If the car were powered by an engine I could TRUST, I'd keep it easily. It's just SOOO sexy. However, the troubles and annoyances ruin it for me. I'd get rid of it if I could find a worthy, like-priced replacement.

I would, and wouldn't.
I love the car and dont mind that the power is, what it is. Its fun to drive and eats a bit more gas but it's not so bad. I think every sport car should do a 14.5 out of the box though.
I'm still not sure how strong the car is and that sort of scares me. I beat the living **** out of my turbo civic for 150k miles. I bounced off the rev limiter many times and many other things and the car kept going. I never feard a flood or break down and in 200k miles of kicking its ***, a flat tire was the only thing that ever stopped it. I'm not so ruff any more on cars but I hope I never get any problems from my 8.
It's ruff to afford to live in Miami and if I had it to do all over again I'd just buy another beater and save my money.

Keep It!
I am one of those fortunate ones that have had minimal problems with the 8. I have taken it in for new flashes, brake update, starter/plugs/battery update, and every other update that comes along. Mine passed the 4206F recall with flying colors, and I seem to have choice between a couple decent dealerships within a reasonable distance to do service.
I will keep my car long after it's been paid off. I love the feel, I love the power (although yes, it could use more), I love the handling, and the interior is a fine place to spend some time. It looks really good, and the look doesn't seem to be 'aging' like other cars (mitsubishi eclipse, for instance). It even sounds OK, especially up around 8K RPM.
I like to think I bought the Corvettes little brother, for $25000 less. (Except I can take along a couple more friends for trips to the ice cream stand).
I test drove the CX7, and I am glad to hear that I am not the only one that was shocked by the turbo lag. I was given a Pontiac Grand Prix loaner on my last service visit, and came to the conclusion that the seats were not designed for humans, maybe some wierd alien with their head placed back on the shoulders about 6 inches, and the steering wheel belongs in a Mac truck....
The only other cars I would buy to replace the 8 would all cost $25000-30000 dollars (U.S.) more to start, and would provide me with much less utility. (Porsche Boxster S, Corvette, BMW Z4, etc).
No question, I'm keeping mine.

Yes I really love the car. I'm looking at something different (like the new Mini Cooper S) for practical reasons when my lease ends. I doubt anything else will give near as much driving pleasure for the money, though. I think it's a fantastic car.
