Would you recommend an RX8 in my situation?

IMO you shouldn't own a car that is worth more than a year of your net income.
( I bought my first car an 88 CRX si when I was 17, Cost me $6K and I made evry single payment myself, worked 38hr/week at a supermarket for it too)
made me aprciate and take care of it a lot more than if I had gotten a supercar "given" to me.
So... RX-8 as a first car?... Only if you are bringing in 30 grand a year on your own salary
If not it will be daddy's nice car that he allows you to use.

Haha How would you know what my net income is? ( not saying that I'm rich either...) You have a point that it makes it more special if you work COMPLETELY for it (not saying that I didn't work at all for it) ...and no....it wouldn't be my daddy's nice car ..it would be mine lol

I'm not saying you shouldn't have it.
And I have no idea how much you earn.
I am just saying to do the math and decide wether or not this is the car for you at this point in your life...
economically:
If you can afford the payments, and the maintenance (to include the insurrance deductible in case the unthinkable should happen,God forbid)
Then by all means go for it, it is a GREAT car.
But if its going to put undue hardship on your finances, or you are going to rely on your parents for anything other than the cosign (18 year olds usualy don't have the established credit to finance a 30k car)
Then you are setting yourself up for them to have power over your car (and dicipline you by taking it away if you pi$$ them off, like we have seen happen to others in this forum)
Driving wise:
It is a very capable sports car and (just like a sportbike) very easy to get overconfident and get into a situation where you find yourself doing something stupid so you need to do some soul searching and decide wether you have the dicipline to keep the shenanigans on the track, and know where the line between spirited driving and asking for trouble on the roads lies.
Seriously, no disrespect meant on the previous post, just trying to give you some other things to consider in your decision making process

Well, I'll say it, since no one else will.
I mean disrespect.
You're a young little POS who thinks he "deserves" an RX-8. No one "deserves" an RX-8 except maybe the guys at Mazda that designed it. I don't "deserve" an RX-8. No one on this board "deserves" an RX-8. Most of us bought it with money we earned, because we wanted a car, and chose the RX-8. I'm sorry your parents brought you up with miserable values about life, money, and belongings, but that's your problem for you to live with.
If your daddy buys you an RX-8, so much the better - I hope you wrap it around a tree. That seems to be the only hope you have of learning any decent values.
G'day.

If you've resorted to such childish, thoughtless remarks yourself, does your hate really make you any more mature then him?

People who feel entitled to great things in life by their very existence sicken me to an extent you wouldn't believe possible.
Now, with that said, I'm going to stop here before I turn this into something political. I'm not sure why I already wasted this much time/energy on the original poster here. I just got the email notification and felt obliged for some reason. Sigh.

amen on the paying for it thing. i've been driving an old volvo wagon for a year and a half now, and after getting myself a good job (and a 4.0, etc) i'm about ready to buy myself an 8. nobody "deserves" anything, but you can't fault a 17 year old if they are gonna pay for the entire shabang themselves.
