I'd just keep the 8 and put $30K worth of mods into it. The vette is really kind of ho-hum where as the 8 is STILL getting sceond looks, thumbs up, etc. after 2 years.

I respect the Vette but not my style. It's a beast but looks the same as it did in 1984.

I could have but I didnt. I'm going for an 911 next time I buy a car.

It is a great looking car though:

If for nothing else to get better gas mileage. Sad when the RX makes you equate good mpg with a Vette.

I'm a fan of the late model vette's the C6 Z06 looks really nice, but it's still the most common high end ***** car out there. If I had money just laying around because I was rich I would get one. but I wouldnt got and take on 50K+ of debt for one...

No offense to any bald old guys that might be here, but when i see some guy rolling in one I kinda laugh... nice car, but not unique by any means. I love my 8, and I do enjoy the looks I get EVERYWHERE from people that have no idea what it is. It makes me feel like I own some type of exotic italian car... where as in a vette, any 5 year old knows what those look like.

In the end its your money and your choice, if you pick up a vette more power to you (literally) heh

When I was 5 my Barbie had a silver Corvette!

I don't really care for the looks of it too much. I think it looks too ordinary, either that or I've seen far too many of them to make an impression on me. I like the looks of the very early ones when they were first introduced but not too much since the first few years.

Even if it was an even swap I would prefer my 8. Actually made me feel great when I took my car in to work to drop off my insurance paperwork on Friday and when I was about to get out of my car a brand new Corvette pulled in next to mine. I got of my car and he got out of his and he told me how nice my car looked and how he wished he had the extra money to spend on one of those (this was a doctor there). I told him my car had MSRP of just over $36K. He said he paid around $75K for his and he couldn't believe I got mine for so sheap and asked if it was several years old. I told him it was a brand new 2006 and everything. Then, after reading "Mazda RX-8" on the back end he laughed and said he mistook it for "one of those Italian jobbies." That made me feel really good, that and the fact that he parks worse than me.

If I was going to get something with more HP and whatnot, I would hold out longer and splurge on something I really want and definitely more exotic, my dream car being a Ferrari F430 Spider. I'd also go for an Elise since they are also really rare around here and a lot cheaper than the Ferrari, and, unless pricing changed from when I first looked at them last year, cheaper than the Corvette.

No. I wouldn't even buy one to sit beside the 8.

If I could justify the cost, absolutely. At this point in my life, spending $50k on a car is not something I want to do.

Love to have a vette. Could almost afford the cost, BUT have you looked into how much it is to insure those things? If I thought I could make the car payments AND pay the insurance bills AND have some fun money left over, jeah one would look great in my garage. The rx8 is fun, and cheaper, leaving more money for me to enjoy other things.

I most certainly wouldn't mind having and driving a vette if I didn't have to pay for it, nothing else in the same price range really compares to it. But... I don't think I'd ever buy one with my own money, I'd go cheaper to an elise or more expensive to a porsche if I were going for a 2-seat sports car. Except maybe for a 78 or 79 stingray version, now THAT is cool.

and I agree that the vette is the ONLY worthwhile american-made sports car outside the ford GT

I would never trade the 8 for a vette. Too common. I know 2 people who have them off the top of my head. I would never buy another American car again actually...

I have always wanted a Corvette from the first day I saw one. I walk around them and they are beautiful. When I sit in them, I am always dissatisfied. I think I want a sports car to not look like an american interior. That usually is the first thing I think. A friend at work bought a used C5 last month and I loved it until I sat down.

I still love them, especially the Z06 but for $60K, I could have two RX'8s. Yea, that Phantom blue would look nice next to my Sunlight Silver! One for a daily driver and one to track!

If the price of gas goes much higher, I'd trade the 8 in on a new Sentra.

I recently took a nice long up close look at the new convertible c6 and i thought it looked really good. The interior, however was unimpressive. to tell the truth, this is what ive felt ever since iver gotten the 8: i really have no desire to trade for any other car, honestly, i dont. I havent driven the vette, and cant say how good it is- but i expect its a beast but i dont want that. I have and 8, like the 8, and would like to keep slowly modding it. If i had the opportunity to equal trade, i would only go for the vette if all out performance was all i cared for. Otherwise, im happy with what ive got.

Nah, your 8 is more fun, believe me.
All that power means very little after straight line. Cornering a Z06 under throttle is pretty unnerving. Autocrosses don't lie.

True, they tell you exactly how your car feels when driving around a parking lot full of cones.

From my understanding there are 2 models,
One for about $45,000 and one for about $65,000.
The one for 65 g's has the better engine etc...
It also has the front bumper/ hood with the air intake built in.
He likes the one with the air intake built in, but doesnt want to blow the extra 20 grand on it.
My question to any1 who might know is can you get the $45,000 vette with the hood intake, or does the higher model of vette only come with it?
Granatelli makes a pretty close kit for all others.
Costs about $800.
Heard that they really bump up HP/TQ.

Without the sentimentality of growing up in the country where the 'Vette is part of the culture, to me it's a no brainer. I'd have the 8 anyday, even for the same money.

Although I've always had a soft spot for the Corvette's from the 50's (who doesn't?) and the current model is a vast improvement on previous cars in terms of design, handling and hopefully quality (GM - yuck), I can't see the value as an import.

If it's going to be a 2 seater I'd prefer a Boxster S or Exige. Either that or keep saving and buy a 911.

Have fun though. Straight lining will certainly be different.

I plan on keeping the 8 until the wheels fall off. Now, would I like to add a Vette as a stable mate, hell ya but only a ZO6.

“The new Z06 achieves 500 horsepower in an approximately 3130-pound, it ripped to 60 mph in only 3.6 seconds, hit 100 in 7.9, and 150 in 17.5.” Motor Trend. The specs speak for them selves this car is the real deal. Similar weight vs. the 8, over 500bhp in an N/A V8, and well under 12 sec in the 1/2 mile. Sorry guys GM made this car right. For those concerned about the interior's or the cup holders should be looking a Audi's.

Silly question, but let my try...yes I would! Then I'd sell the Vette, buy another 8 and use the difference to buy something I'd take to the track. So, is it a deal?

But I gotta say, the C6 is a step in the right direction for GM, maybe the best car they ever put together.

After driving the 02' Z-06 with 405 HP....i am sold! In the next few years , if the Japanese makers skimp on there model sports cars(Supra,Z, RX-?), the RX-8 is going to be having a american buddy next to it that is toting 505HP.
