My dad had a Vette when I was growing up. It was fast and cool looking, but it was also a rattle-trap piece of junk. I would trade straight-up for a Z06 since they're worth so much more than the 8, but then I would sell it and pocket the profit. When I'm driving around in my 8, I'm not wishing I had a Vette, I'm feeling really glad I have an 8.

I could have purchased a Vette or Porsche when I bought my 2004 RX8, but did not. When I lost my RX8 in a garage fire, I had a chance to reconsider but I ordered a 2006 RX8 rather than another sports car. Reasons were (and still are):

1) Investment. I could afford it but very hard for me to justify the $50K - $80K on a corvette or porsche as my summer car when I can get a significant percentage of the experience for $30K. I'll keep the difference invested.

2) Practicality. I have four daughters and the availability of the back seat let's me dirve the RX8 much more often than I could a two seater. Also avoids the need to go home and switch cars cuz more than one daughter or friend needs a ride home.

3) Uniqueness. There are Vette's everywhere you look and everyone knows what they are. Even in Buffalo, you see a lot more Porsches around than you do the RX8. I really enjoy driving something that looks that exotic and few others drive in my market.

Can't wait to see my new RX8!

Yes, I would trade in a heartbeat. Then I would sell it, roll the cash into my mortgage to build up even more equity, sell my house, then move to someplace cheaper than NoVA and buy a house that made me look like a drug czar.

I guess that wasn't the response you were looking for...

Yep, that's me too, beautifully said. I also had a couple more reasons:

4) The rotary engine. Was just something I wanted to try having, something different and interesting.

5) Over-featured. The vette came with too many gizmos on it that I not only didn't want, but actively preferred to not have. In theory, one could get a base vette without some of that, but in practice nobody had any like that.

6) Colors. The vette had a surprisingly limited number of colors which appealled to me, whereas the 8 had enough winners to make it hard to choose (until I saw that shinka black cherry in the sunlight!)

7) Shifter. At least on the one I test drove, the shifter on the vette was pretty lame. Just difficult to find where to get it into gear. The 8 shifter worked exactly as I expected from shift one.

To me the vette is an engine with a car wrapped around it, the rx8 is a car with an engine in it.

Noooooo......I wouldn't trade my RX8 in for a brand new $51,000 Z06 Corvette.

What kind of F*cking question is this?!

I think you're just rubbung it in that you have a new Vette.

I still love them, especially the Z06 but for $60K, I could have two RX'8s. Yea, that Phantom blue would look nice next to my Sunlight Silver! One for a daily driver and one to track!
the interior of the c5 was liek that of the camaros.
The c6's is roomier and better looking imo

Yes it is. And with the navi option...makes it much more attractive. Especially in SOM

there are too many vettes on the road, plus they are too expensive for me. i like the 8 for the novelty and the bang/ buck factor.

I wouldn't trade my 8 for a vette. My 8 is original and unique around here. However, every old man with money in town has a vette or 2 and talks about them all the time. Don't get me wrong, I understand the "awe" of a vette, but they've gotten rather common.

Since I have both, I would say this. The 8 is a fun car to drive more so then the Vette. However, when I want to really get serious and go for a drive I take the Vette for a no nonsense, torque and power kick *** ride!

I'll wear that dress for three days and you can call me tina if you are going to give me a C6 Z06.

Here is my never to be humble opinion:

My old man has a 2001 Corvette convertable, dark red, tan top, 20k miles
I just bought my Black RX-8 April 11th. Already put 1000 miles on it.

Went to lunch with Dad today. Sunshine and 73 in Columbus, Oh. today. Ate on the patio. Parked next to each other. Conversation among us about the cars is best summed up by the smoking hot 20 something red head " The red car looks like an old man drives it, but it is still cool."

My Dad will never live it down. BTW I'm 35, He's 59.

I would only trade if the vette was a rag top and no additional $ out of my pocket.

Only negative about the RX-8 - can't go topless. Sunroof is pretty close though.

Yes, it is one of the very few American cars I would consider. Others are the Viper, Ford GT, S7 if I could afford

I love the Vette, but I need my back seats so what ever car comes after the 8 will have to be either a 2+2 (with useful back seats) or something like the EVO X or Legacy GT.

That is to say...if I had to do it. Things can change...but I think the 8 is a keeper.

In a heart beat but a 07 Shelby GT500 would be better and still be able to handle the family!
