Yup, you kids are fortunate and I am happy for you. Whats the diff if you drive great cars a t 16 or 55. They're still great cars at any age. I probably get a bigger kick out of this car than you guys because I come from the dinosaur era when such affordable exotic cars did not exist. If you come into the car by Dad or yourself who cares. As long as you enjoy the ride and drive safe.
Beware of the Columbine mentallity. Most kids do not have your kind of resources. There will be jealousy, You will be way cool. Set an example, live up to your real expectations.
We all deserve the best. The best does not always deserve us. In other words no one is perfect.

Well im just about 16 and my parents said that I would be able to get a 30 grand car and I could pay it off in the future. I have a job and have about 6 grand saved up. I declined cuz I know I would probably kill myself in a powerful 30 grand car if if I drove safely and within the speed limit and offered to drive the old 96 accord till I get more "experience". Well they might get the car anyway and just wait (meaning parents get to drive it) till I am ready for it. Which hopefully isn't to long. BTW im also in the LI area what town you from?

----- Wow ------
OK, it took me about a hour to read through the last 8 pages of this debate and since I am almost the age of controversy, I thought I should chime in. I do not post here as often as many others who are proactively replying with conflicting messages, so I am unsure how valuable my opinion will be to this conversation.
Please read everything as it will help you to understand where I am coming from in my arguments.
----- About Me -------
First off, let me state that I am 17 years of age. I've been driving for a little bit over a year and am in no way convinced I am the best driver ever, but do believe I can negotiate the daily obstacles (debris, animals, other drivers, etc...) fairly well. I own my own company, OmegaHost (http://www.omegahost.net), and am also a waiter at a local restaurant (for its social aspects). I am a senior in high school and retain an A average. I pay for not only my RX-8, but also: Food, Gas, Insurance and Clothing. At this time I do not pay rent and do not have any reason to be emancipated at this time. I am concurrently enrolled at a community college, but am transfering to York Institute of Art upon graduation from high school.
----- My Opinion ------
The subject at hand, whether a young person (16 year olds specifically) should be able to drive a car of this value and / or fully appreciate it for what it is. In my opinion, this thread has started off on the wrong foot. In the first post by nosubstitutec4s he stated that the sales man sort of turned his head while the 16 year old without a permit ran the brand new car to 7500. Then he tried to tell everybody that he was responsible. Even though I, of course, am not against a young person driving a car like this, it certainly threw me off to the fact he was responsible yet drove a non-broken in engine to 7500. It also made me a bit queezy thinking of the salesman and how responsible he was. Next, I have many friends with nice cars (BMWs, Lexus', etc), and I have not heard them boasting an stories about street racing or excessive speeding. None of which have ever been into accidents. I forget who it was who said something along the lines of "the only reason you have a car is because your parents allow it and that you could not make the payments yourself because you are too young", but I do completely agree with that post. I do not and am not able to make my own payments on the RX-8 simply because I am not 18. I do think my responsibilities will grow once I turn 18 and start doing all the paper work myself. As a fairly new driver, I have encountered situations in which I did not know how to handle them, but I am sure new ones arise for even the most experienced of drivers. I'm not saying I am the perfect teenage driver... I have redlined my RX-8 on a couple occasions, but only at the local track, never in an unsupervised environment. As for young people with nice cars ONLY having the car payment as their own, I must put my foot down. As mentioned above, I pay for my own food, clothing, gas and insurance, plus other miscellaneous expenses. I am able to make these payments because I sustain my own income, not from my parents, but from my Web Hosting company. I also work several hours a week and go to high school / college.
---- In Conclusion ----
To the person whom said "every post from every 16 year old is clarifying why young people should not drive this car".. you are sadly mistaken. Although the peers in my age group, nos and shim, may not be the smartest or most responsible kids, you can not judge each and every one of us to be this way. I have more responsibilities now then most adults I know. My automobile expense (payment and insurance) a month is 650 and I still have a substantial marginal gap between what I make each month. For the points about how young people have no experience, I completely agree, but some of our negotiating skills are far beyond some of our predocessors which will help us not "wrap our cars around trees by the time we graduate". Furthermore, I do believe I can appreciate this car for what its worth. I know its capabilities and value.
----- It's Getting a Bit Late -----
Although I was unable to respond to all of your points, I hope I have in some way redeemed myself as a part of my age group.

SERIOUSLY
after reading all the bashings....
I have to give him props for saying this.
I am only 15 years old and interested in the RX-8. (I think I'm one of the youngest members on this forum) If your wondering, I've rode in the Evo, 350z, and RX-8 before, sat in Bimmers and Benz, so I'm been doing shopping around. And yes, the Evo and 350z were much faster, but I didn't like the whiny sound 350z's engine makes. The Evo is a beast above 4k rpms, but someone in my school already owns one and I don't want to copy. The reason why the 8 is so fascintating is the rotary engine. Do not lie to me and tell me you don't like to rev up and listen to that engine. I know you guys all do. That whistling sound you hear as it goes up 5k, 6k, 7k... wow.
And yes, I have the money to pay for the car myself.
You guys are bashing him because some of you may not have earned that much money when you were younger or just could not afford it.
All I need is one summer and bam! the car will be mine.
How could a 15 year old earn so much money?
Easy, the answer is MONEY MAKES MONEY.
My other friend, ever since he was 14 opened up an online store, he pulls in a few thousand every year.
(Insurance for the RX-8 and the mileage will drain my pockets until I'm empty, this is what I'm afraid of)

Not to start "bashing" but riding in a Evo, 350Z etc is hardly "shopping around". And sure everyone loves the sound of the rotary at 4,000 - 7,500 rpm, but that doesn't mean we push it that high on public roads.

what exactly makes driving a car to its redline (which is 9000, not 7500 btw) makes me irresponsible? I was on an open road with 0 cars in front of me, and one dodge van behind me. There were no driveways on my right, and the next off ramp from the highway on my left wasnt for another 3/4 of a mile. There were no cops, and really i didnt go all that fast. The limit was 55, so is slowing down to 40 and then flooring it to redline (beeper starts around 65, cuts out 72) is nothing too bad, and i would like to see any one of you tell me that you have never gone 17 mph over the speed limit (72 mph, in a 55). Fine, maybe i sounded like a little punk kid with a rich daddy who was buying a little toy for his spoiled child. Thats not what im trying to say. Can't you all just see that the point of this thred was to talk about how great the car is. God, you know, it makes me wonder wether or not i really want to get this car. Not even because of the car, because that is spectacular. I'm wondering wether or not the people who own this car are the kind of people i would want to wave to if i saw one of you on the highway. I always figured yes, seeing some of this forums more kind and intelligent people trying to help out their fellow 8er's. What is the problem here.

Secondly I could care less if you can afford the car, the argument I have is that a young person does not have the "driving experience" factor which you will not understand ironically enough until you have experienced it. Driving is not just getting behind the wheel and being "mature" and getting good grades. There are lots of "fun" suprises on the road to being a good driver.
And to the one kid who rode in an WRK so he knows about the car now...ha ha ha....yup this thread is a classic.

flatso im not 16 im actually 15 and a 11 months and I agree that there is no experiece in a new driver. And I agree with your second point. Ive known many friends that are now seniors and freshman(in college) and have all got into accidents with their first car. But if they wanna do that with thier money than fine and when they get older than would not know how to spend money wisely in the future.(at least that what my parents tell me) . Chances are that once Im 17-18 I would be able to afford an RX-8 or a IS300 by myself and hopefully have enough experience behind the wheel to be safe.

And lets look at Polak's "maturity" level from another post of his. I do think Polak is a good hardworking kid but show's the typical young man's thought pattern in his post below:
"I was driving alone on a permit around midnight, when I drive by a cop doing about 100 in a 65.
Ok so one I don't have anyone with 3 years driving experience in the car with me
And two I can't legal drive past 11pm on a permit.
So I have a choice to make stop and have to wait till 21 to get a license or floor it.
Yup I smoked his ***! We were up to 140 before he backed off and let me go.
I get home thinking whew scott free. Lay down fall asleep watching TV.
3am Knock on the door, the bloody cop lives down the street from me and has seen me driving my car! And says "think you could get away eh?"
I'm like what do you mean, he tells me that he was chasing a Titgrey RX-8 a couple of hours ago and says its me, I deny the whole thing and start reciting TV shows that are on at midnight on sat.
Then I ask him for my license plate number he has NADA!
He didn't even bother issuing me a ticket because he knew he couldn’t' win in court. "

Dude it doesn’t matter what you think bro your not changing the freaking world a kid at my school drives a viper he'll have **** to pay if he gets caught for anything. If you are arguing about experience what about 60-90 year olds who cant drive for S*** because they are impaired in some way or have a disability there are plenty of things to debate then the driving capabilities of 16 year olds.

Man, this forum brought me back.
Its been like 5 years since I have been on the site. I am the 16 year old that got bashed for getting an RX-8 at such a young age.
It's really interesting to see yourself speak on a forum after so many years. You get to witness development in the way you speak, think etc.
I guess I'll let you guys know how I am doing. I'm 21 now. I'm going to be a senior at the University of Texas (Go Longhorns!). Finance Major/Accounting Minor. Hopefully I'll be getting a full time offer next year from a big time Investment Bank.
How is everyone else doing so many years later? (Especially you Flatso. I remember getting the most heat from you.)
Oh, I forgot. My RX-8 and I are doing very, very well.

Would you have done as well today, had rx8club not smacked you around? I bet you learned a lot. That is why you need to remit payment, and find all these new people talking about "Help me decide" and "Is rx8 good" and smack them around.
All these psycho babble people like to advertise "kinder, gentler" activity on rx8clubz but that is not how it works in real life.
