Wow wow wow wow

I think I peed my pants a little!!! I bought the car!!!!!!!!!

Wow- its the first brand new car I have ever bought- in fact, I never bought a car with under 100,000 miles before. I don't get to pick it up till tomorrow at 3. What will I do until then? Help me!!

I planned to buy black originally. Then I decided to check out pearl white. Thing is, I showed up and accidentally saw the Titanium Gray. My GOD- has anybody seen this color before?!?! Depending on the light, it was all different hues- sometimes it had an almost purplish tone, and other times more towards a blue. It is a very complex color.

I went with a sport package. Came with appearance package, and I never decided if I like that part or not. Hopefully I won't be scraping the chin. Also has door edge guards, the rotary appearance. I made them throw in a cargo net, and I am ordering the rubber floor mats. No stains on my floor!

The car only has 60 miles!!!

My plan is to immediately take a road trip to get 1000 miles on it fast. The break in guidlines are not to keep the engine at one speed for too long, so I am thinking if I am on a road trip just vary the gears from 5 to 6 for the majority. Is this a bad idea?

Wow- I will put up pics tomorrow...
OH NO- does it rain tomorow?

I can't wait!

ps- does anybody think that clear bra thing is a good investment? $550 is steep, but if it will keep the chips from happening, maybe its worth it.

Also- I foget... I've searched around and have seen a few different options for the oil cooler/ radiator screens. I am pretty sure its a good idea, but which solution is most preferred?

Also, out of curiosity, did Mazda perhaps not install screens there because these coolers need lots of airflow (and a screen might restrict it) or did they truly just drop the ball here?

The question of ClearBra or not heavily depends on conditions of roads you frequently travel on. In NJ, the prevalence of SUV and 18-wheelers makes the road debris and rock chips protection an essential fact of life. My hard-learned personal experience taught me that I would politely but firmly ask the dealership to leave the protective films that came from the factory intact as a condition of sale. Immediately after picking up the car, drive it very carefully to the installer who will peel off the films, wash the car, and then apply the ClearBra. This process ensures that the car will be chip-free & scratch-free from the dealer during the delivery-preparation and ensuing mileages after picking up the car.

Picky? Yes. Protective? Absolutely. Why? So you will not repeat the same fate as I did, with the constant reminder of chips now forever covered under the ClearBra

$550 seems to be quite a decent quote, if that is the complete protection. For me, I decided on protecting the headlights, fog lights, front bumper, engine hood (up to tip of rotary indent), side mirrors, front door edges, fuel door, and rear bumper. I would wrap the whole car in the amazing Bra if I have my way! LOL :p

Congrats on the car. Haha...I went with black. As to the clear clear bra question, pay $550 now or pay more later. I've had my RX8 for about 100 days now and everytime I wash it, I find new knicks, scratches, and scapes. I will probably end painting the whole front end and then clear bra-ing it. The paint, nowadays, is just to soft. If you are handy, I belive that there is a DIY for the clear bra. The easier parts that is, the hood should probably be left up to the professionals.

Congratulations! Your car sounds nice and you sound very excited. Very cool. Enjoy the ride.

When I got mine, I drove it back from Kansas to Georgia (800 miles). I varied speed and gears about every 15 minutes. I never took it over 4K until I hit 600 miles and then only briefly. If you can stick to your plan, while mopeds go whistling by you, the car should be fine.

Congrats! I just got my red 8 last week and I love it. I'll be taking it to Waltham 2 times a week, keep an eye out. If you're looking for a guick trip consider heading to Lime Rock next Monday for the events. There is a group of us meeting in western Mass. to caravan down. You can read up on it in the NE forum. Have fun.

Lime rock?! Excellent. I will just need to get those miles on. I put 80 miles on today. Its hard to stay under 4000, not because I am being rambuncious, but just because it seems to wind up so easily. I have been short shifting, I think once I ran it to 4400 accidentally, and so I have yet to hear that wonderful engine, but I will be patient. For now, I've been enjoying the headlights. Very satisfying.

Welcome to RX8Club. Definitely keep an eye out on the NE Forum's as we are a pretty active group in New England with many get togethers. There is a weekend run the first weekend in June. June 6th there is a track day at NHIS, as well as some other possible get togethers.

I like titanium, but you know Winning Blue is so beautiful

Congrats. Getting a clear bra is a smart move if car is new. For me, I've suffered the wrath of the chips, so I see no point in getting one now. Personally I'd rather just let it get bad enough, then use the money to have it repainted, then consider a clear bra if I decide to keep car, which is unlikely (waiting on MS RX8 or something else that will catch my eye). I'm weery about keeping car for more then 4-5 years, because that's when the headaches usually begin, and the reality hits when you see how the car has aged, and no longer looks new. Enjoy!!

That's pretty much the same car I got about a month ago, Tit Gray, 6sp sport package, and have already put on 2000 miles! I absolutely love it! Of course I had to drive it back home 200 miles in the rain when I picked it up, so I feel your pain. Every time I open the garage door it's like christmas morning all over again enjoy
