Woww!!!! Wat A Rip Off!!
wow, you guys wont believe this. i've read in the thread that in order to changet the flywheel and clutch it would be around 3-4 hours long. so i called a mazda dealership so they can do it correctly without any mistakes. they quoted me a SEVEN hour job. so they wanted at least $800 for installation. i'm so amazed on how much they want to rip me off!!

The dealership is the most expersive place you can go. Do the math, I bet their labor rate is over $100.00 per hour. You could get it cheaper at "Jiffy lube" or "Wally world(Mart)" The question is you wanna go there?

peter: Since you live in SoCal, you're in luck! Check out Rotary Reliabily& Racing in Santa Ana. They're a shop that's been around forever and they only work on rotories.
They'll probably do it for you MUCH cheaper.

yeah never go to the dealer, because they'll always want to rip you off...... i usually go to the local meineke and i have a friend there who is a mech. He installed everything except the intake and the exhaust. and i would say roughly ive spent about 300 dollars in installation fees. so i would find a good local mechanic and build a good relationship with them so that they can help you out when it comes to installations.

to the people that say avoid the dealer. do you know what a ppf is and what the alignment specs are for it...
the price at a dealer is not set in stone..
food for thought.

And 3-4 hours is cutting it close even for an experienced mazda tech that has done the job before. No way if they have to check the manual

I sure wouldn't say that about all dealerships - I've received good and bad service at the same dealership as their management changed. If you want someone who would do a good job and hopefully not make any mistakes I would suggest to call around and find a particular shop with a particular tech who has done the job (SUCCESSFULLY!!!) before and try to get him and only him.
If you just wander into any dealership they might very well decide this is a good job to train that new guy.
Referrals from your other local owners (saw one above) would be another hot lead.
As swoope said, YMMV. (actually he said this:

you and i know that, but i think most shops would not... that is why i think for this change a dealer, or a rotary shop that has done rx8s before...
a couple of years ago a big well known rotary shop missed this. it was a big problem. ugly thread...
