Sad story... Remember people, in some states it's the driver's responsibility to make sure the passenger wears his/her seatbelt.

Wet roads here (while snowing) and dealer himself fish tailed the car while showing a test drive to me...kinda scary.

Very, very sad. This is a tragic reminder for people - the OEM tires are dangerous in winter conditions, like cold, snow, or ice. They have near zero grip, and (from the description) were a major factor in an accident like this one. They are not designed to be used in winter conditions, and they simply don't work.

If you expect to be driving your RX-8 where you will encounter winter conditions, replace your summer tires with winter tires.

If you have summer tires on, and a sudden storm creates winter conditions - any snow or ice - then leave your RX-8 parked, wherever it is. Take a cab, bus, train, bum a ride, rental car, any alternate means, but leave the car where it is safe and so you'll be safe. Trying to "make it home" or make it to work is like playing russian roulette - the consequences can be much more than just a bent fender or suspension. If you can't justify the $800 for tires or $1200 for a winter set of wheels and tires, fine - spend a few bucks on those occasions when the conditions are such that the tires don't work.

Drive safely,
Gordon

Ah. This is terrible. Very sad. People just forget how bad an accident really is. They've watched too many Nascar guys walk away. Out in the streets, it's a different story too many times. No harnesses, rollbars, helmets, etc., just a minimal amount of protection.

I wonder if the owner who died was a member here. I hope not.

Y'all be very careful, OK?

This really is a sad situation. Unfortunately, i know that feeling oh too well. A childhood best friend was driving around my block and lost control , spinning into the opposite lane. I saw him struggling for his life for a month in the hospital until the end. 3 of my classmates died in the car. Another incident was when a girl in my school lost control of her car in the rain and hit a tree. This is in the same year. What I'm getting at with all of my rambling is that drive safe especially on the holidays. I had to learn many life lessons in my short 17 year life.
