For certain older cars, they might try to fix it with some "used" parts. it make sense but, no one likes "Used" part(s) for a repair, right ?
I've been covered by GEICO for a long time, and have been very satisfied with their settlements. Never had a body or glass shop squawk about dealing with them. Of course, I'm not in New York City.
IMHO, going through GEICO is the best path. You're their customer, so they won't be out to screw you. Also feel free to remind them that they're eventually going to collect from the other guy, so they don't have to really shave things.
Since you have a possible injury, definitely work through GEICO. If the other company does give you a check for the body damage, odds are that when you endorse it you'll be signing a full release.
If you run up medical expenses on your own health coverage, make sure you understand your health insurance company's policy on subrogation. Remember the infamous Wal-Mart incident.
Good luck with the settlement and the repair.

The more I look at the damage ...
tears coming outa my eyes ...
I will try that, but I have a feeling Im going to get "its not really that serious so you might as well let insurance company take care of it ..." this kind of reply

lol the bottom of this page had an allstate ad. Sign? Maybe.
Dude, my father was hospitalized so I took his truck home with me. Bastards broke into it. Called the cops when I found it the following morning. Had a cop friend call using cop code. STILL nothing. Imagine me having to tell me father who had a stroke, that his car was broken into and nothing was done about it after he was released.
F A W K N Y P D.
Worthless sacks of crap.

If I dont call, how am I suppose to get a police report? I know at the end I still didnt get **** cuz they never came.
So does that mean I should call only if somebody is killed, or at least getting hit by around 50 mph or faster ?
if it happens to you, what would you do ? I just want to know.
and last year, someone smash my bro's car window to take his nav away. Thats a good enough reason to call a cop right? not even expecting to them to find the NAV and catch the crook. but at least give them an idea that "hey, there is an ******* around this area breaking people's window to try to jack ****"
called 911, about 6-7 times. 3 hours later no one shows up, it happened right in front of his apartment overnight. Found out the next morning. He lives by a Major road (College Point Blvd). NO one fuxking shows up.
So what was their excuse? "They're on their way".
Yeah ok. 3 hours ? It takes less than an 1/2 hour to get to the local precinct on FOOT.
at the end my bro just left. mad pissed.
Someone broke into my house couple years ago. Yeah, the NYPD came, about 1 & 1/2 hour after the call. imagine that your house has been "turned upside down", but you cant "touch" anything cuz cops "are not here yet." and you have to stare at them for 1-2 hours ...
NYPD is just useless. They are here for tickets only.
Funny thing is that Mr I-Want-to-run-for-the-3rd-term Michael Bloomberg and the Chef @ NYPD said NYC's crime rate is at all time low and its one of the safest city in USA. kiss my ***.

Some ******* backed into my car at the gas station while I was filling up and made a little scratch. He denied it and quickly drove away. I had his plate number and everything. Called the cops but they never came (even after 2 hours). Now I cant file anything because I didn't get a police report.
Make sure you treat me to a 5 star restaurant in Manhattan too... Just because .

Does it matter? I seen people called cops over a freaking cat in his backyard and it just wont go away.

My brother had a neighbor back into his parked car in Binghamton, NY. He went down to the police station to pick up an accident report form. (That's how police reports are generated in NY - you do it and turn it in.) They chewed him out for not having called them to the scene.
Get a radio scanner and spend a while listening to police calls. Listen to the cop's reaction when dispatch sends him to one of those "Neighbor's cat crapped in my yard" calls.

Back in the 70s I screwed up at a stop sign in Torrance, CA, and ran into someone. While we were exchanging info, we flagged down a passing police car. The cop said their policy was to do a report only if there was an injury or much more damage than we had. He saw we were getting along OK with each other, and left.

when my bro totaled his car last year, we went to the 110 precinct to get the report, that lady there was giving us attitude like "oh your car is totaled? why cant u drive more carefully ? now I gotta do another paper"
I was like wtf u freaking bitch ... I thought they hired u just to do reports ... oh yeah before me and my bro step into the room, she was "TALKING" with her friend over some food or whatever bullshit, OH IM SO SORRY I INTERRUPTED YOUR CONVERSATION !
damn freaking NYPDs.
Now you know why the statistic are so low.
when I first heard it thru the radio I was like "whhaaaaatt ??? get the #$@# out of here ! "
Another reason for me to vote the other guy, I dont even care whoever that guy is or what party he is in. Bloomberg didnt do ****. All he did was to hire more people to give bullshit tickets. and raise everything all over the place. Guess what the budget return with a big fat RED.
Statistic can be fake. You just need to set the right rules for the chart, and you will always get the results that you "want"
so yeah screw u bloomberg.
it wasn't that that bad, but the repair will cost close to 1 K if not more.
need to take the rear out, sand it down and repaint the whole thing, fix the crack part, repaint.
Waiting for Geico to set the appointment.
Thanks.

The only thing I found the NYPD good for is owning one of those shirts that has their badge on the top left with NYPD over it walking into Dunkin Donuts. If you are even at least in decent physique shape they think you're a cop and give you discounts. I got like 2-4 bucks off after that wearing the shirt, score.

Not a good week for '05 Shinkas. I just got aft-rammed in a driving range parking lot yesterday and the perp took off. Probably one of those morons that backs up until they hit something!
Fortunately (?) just a bumper indentaton that should be able to be pushed out and a small amount of paint cracking since the bumper was hot at the time. One exhaust surround was cracked so I'll have to replace that.
I'll most likely pull off the bumper and bring it to the local shop.
Just six months ago I increased my deductable to a high level since my family and I never get in accidents, so I'll be sucking up this one.
