You are doing the right thing.
You can also get a Pela Pump to pump out the oil via suction through the dip stick, and that supposedly removes roughly 6 to 6.5 quarts.
But yeah, always check for leaks.

Running low on oil can "blow **** up". Running a little too much oil won't do jack ****...worst case it'll blow some through the vent tubes into the intake tube. Of course it's best to run the correct amount per the dipstick, but if I had to choose between running a quart low and a quart over, I'd run over all day long. Maybe that's just my weird logic though.

So, because a computer somewhere told you an inaccurate number, and you used that number, and your engine physically indicates that it is not enough, you are not going to finish the job and put in the amount of oil your engine physically needs. Because it is too far from the number you were originally given, so it cannot be accurate. Right?

holy hell. im just gonna close this thread and say this- measure the oil that came out and you'll know how much to put in. even then need to check the dipstick to see if its full. a quart over is NOTHING to worry about a quart under IS.
