!#x@......... These Exausts Get Hot!!!

Well just got the exaust done on my 04 MT 8. Found a guy who comes highly recommended and is a bit of an artist. He does allot of custom work and specializes on stainless systems. Got a 3" stainless system from the cat back with dual Magnaflow mufflers also stainless. He showed me the mufflers and I was blown away at the fact you were able to see right through them.......won't be any resistance with these babies. The system has no clamps the gentlemen stainless tig welds where clamps are called for and he warrenties the whole system for 10 years. Went to pick it up.......started her up and WOW! what an amazing sound and she even sounds better under load not tinny at all . When I picked her up I noticed how the 3" tips might have been recessed a little far back in the oppenings on the lower bumper but neglected to have mentioned it. I was just excited about taking her for a hum. After ripping arround town and captureing attention at the beautiful scream my baby was making got her home and decided to take a look at the tips. HOLY ****!................the upper portion of the plastic oppenings where the tips pertrude out of where actually
melted and my exaust finnisher where actually fused with the plastic as well. Thankfully there was no dammage to the bumper or paint. Any how all is well and fixed now at his expense...........the whole issue was he didn't bring the tips out far enough but it just goes to show you how hot these rotaries exaust get.

sounds about right lol. Seeing as with an aftermarket exhaust system you can shoot flames... I'd imagine it's a little hot

After putting around town for maybe 15 mins to get to a buddys place, I took of my cat & put in my midpipe. After burning the hell out of my self, & a few hours later.. I went to pick up my cat & it was still warm to the touch..

Yeah, they do get really hot. I burned my leg on the tip of the tip on July 15th and meanwhile, august 5th I still have a mark. It was only on there for a split second too.

Sadly, there was no "Do not lick" sticker on my exhaust. I'm speaking with my lawyer now about possible legal action.

The best tips are either the insulated type (sort of a mini-resonator glass pack for a tip - example Corksport) or those where there is a larger metal shroud around the real exhaust pipe to make it 'look biggger' haha (this is the OEM exhaust type and it still is a winnie!!

I saw a guys whole side off his bumper melted off once when he decided to just remove the muffler to reduce restriction on his 'race RX-8' and ... well you can imagine the rest ... loud and sticky!

My Racing Beat Rev8 has 4" tips and so far it hasn't melted anything on my 8. You just have to be careful about the fit and make sure that exhaust tips have clearance all the way around.

Me too. Burn scar on my left leg. Didn't realize it was burning until I smelled my burning flesh. Then the pain. Ouch.

I have a smilie face scar on my right calf where I leaned up against the exhaust after driving for about 30 mi. The large *** pipes from Racing Beat make great scars! For the rest of my life I will always carry a memory of my 8 with me no matter what I drive.

And speaking of flames, on the track, mine was throwing about 3 footers. Ask olddragger. The mid-pipe is awesome.

~1800°F on the inside, ~90°F on the outside. Who do you think will win?

they do get hot but any exhuast on any vehicle will get that way. find a turbo 8 and then look at the exhaust on it after some hard runs. it will be glowing red.
