yay!
hello! I am 19 yrs old and I loved the Rx8 since it first came out
So here's my story
My car ('02 Kia Optima) got totaled by a family member
I need a car, so I look up the pre-owned dealership websites.
Out of pure randomness I decide to check if any of them have an Rx8
I find a black '05 GT auto with 8500 miles
My dad and I went in to check it out.
We're going back tomorrow to buy it
This is a car I've only been able to dream of. I'm so excited

Get the manual!!!!!!!
Unless you only have one leg, or drive L.A. traffic for 4 hours a day.

Good for you man. As long as you are an aware/informed AT buyer i wish you luck and congrats!

hope you've done your homework on the car before deciding to buy it (eg. gas mileage, oil consumption, flood prevention etc) lots of good read on the forum. congrats and welcome!

Maybe he doesn't know how to drive manual and too scared to learn (or has no one to teach him). That would be the ONLY reason I can think of for buying the automatic version of this car.

=D I know precisely what I'm getting; I've done my research.
If I had a choice between auto and manual under the same circumstances, it's no contest.
I was hoping there would be more people welcoming me into the Rx8 community rather than having to read useless comments about Auto this, Manual that.
Well anyways, thanks to those that kindly welcomed me

It's not that the AT is bad, it's just that, well, you're buying a sports car. This isn't just a fast commuter car, or a luxury coupe. It takes skill and effort to get the most out of this car, and the more control you have over how the engine performs, the more you will be able to get the car to do.
If you can't drive manual, please go spend $300 on a piece of **** car with a standard tranny and drive it into the ground learning on it. It's worth it, and during the month or so you have it you can save up more for your 8.
Then you can go and drive this high-revving beastie the way it was meant to be driven. Remember that the AT only revs up to ~7000 RPM, and the MT goes to 9000. It's a hell of a difference, and it's the difference that people buy a rotary engined car _for_.

It's not that all of them are trying to negative, they are just concerned like the previous post. This car requires some work and eats up a lot of gas. Most of the time we don't get the MPG sticker on the car. Yeah and a lot of people that got the AT wished they had gotten a manual. There's a lot of used RX8s for sale that are decently priced. You should check them out if you want. However, if you have your heart set on this car, I say go for it. Congrats and welcome to the club.

sure, i'd rather have a manual over an auto. (i know how to drive stick... please don't assume i don't just because i'm getting an A/T)
the thing is, i was very lucky that an rx8 in good condition was on sale for a really good price right when i needed a new car. and that was the only one in my area. trust me, i searched.
i dont think ill ever regret snatching up an opportunity to buy an rx8
anyways, if i had time to wait for a pre-owned M/T rx8 i would. rx8's arent common in my area and theres no telling when an M/T i could afford would pop up.
edit:: i guess buying a shitty car now and save up for a new one with MT would make sense. but i guess i'm just impatient

and i'm used to paying a lot for gas and going in for maintenance a lot
my kia was pretty shitty for a kia. i bought that one used as well
edit:: i just want to be accepted by you guys =D but apparently there is bias towards the auto tranny. lol hopefully we can get past that
