YAY! Deflooded the 8 all by myself.
I flooded the 8 this morning and I couldn't find the instruction manual anywhere in my house. Tried to look up the instructions on this site for about an hour to no avail. It's funny how the only thing everybody said was "did you look into the booklet for the deflooding procedure?". But I had no idea what it was.
Well, I finally found my manual and it worked like a charm. Apperently some of you said that it only works once out of four times. I guess I was lucky. Poof of smoke and I was all good.
Procedure:
a) Press gas and clutch then turn on the ignition for 10 seconds.
If that doesn't work then,
b) Just press the clutch and turn on the ignition for 10 seconds.
Trust me, I did try everything I could to get the car started with what I had because I parked in the mud. Do'h.
I really didn't know how I flooded it but I remembered that while I was turning on the ignition, I hesitated and slipped my finger, once I turned it again- it was already too late. The engine was flooded.

He means to crank it for 10 sec. Glad it worked for you but it sure as hell didn't work for me. Gone thru it 3 time in 1 1/2 winters and it failed everytime. Even removing the fuel pump fuse didn't work. Even the dealer claimed it takes them 2 hrs to deflood when they got it. We'll that's their excuse for charging me 2 hrs anyway. Don't go thinking this deflood procedure is unique to Mazda or the Rx8 or anything. It's the same one as far as I know for any fuel injection engine. Worked great on my 7 but definitely not a sure cure for the 8. Don't mean to be so gloomy, it's that I'm pissed at Mazda for ruining my enjoyment of such a nice car.

i defently gotta rite this down sounds like something i would accidently do when i get my car... hey is there a way i would flood my new rx8 if im practicing to learn how to drive manual? cuz i dont know how to drive manual but i saw the big difference between manual and automatic and im soooo liking the manual lol

Personnaly I wouldn't learn on an 8 with flooding problems. Learning means stalling and if I'm not mistaken, stalling means high risk of flooding. Better to learn on some clunker so you can learn not to ride the clutch and save your new car. Just my 2 cents.

I learned on my 8... I looked at the clutch prices and it's not that expensive to learn on the 8.

I learned on the 8. But I learned during summer...though I had some experience prior and took a lesson before picking her up as a refresher

Yea. But to be more specific, you press down the gas AND clutch then turn the ignition for 10 seconds. If that doesn't work then just press the clutch down and crank for 10 seconds.
Sorry if it confused you.

I'm confused do you mean actually turn on the ignition right round holding it in the engine start position for 10 seconds and do this, or just put the key in and turn it one segment round so that the dash lights up etc but the engine isnt actually on?
