yeh...another tire post!
Ive been looking all over, found alot about tire sizes for stock rims, but no answer to my specific question. What size tire can you fit on stock rims with 1.5-2in drop? Fenders not rolled or anything like that.
I was reading it kills the handling in our cars to put different sizes on font/back?
Also a suggestion for good semi cheap tires? Price is a big problem.

i use to have nexen 245/40 all around they were good tires and cheap and it shouldnt mess up the handling if u did a stagered set up in a fwd car then yeah.now i have falkens same size i got a good price on them.

I will be putting 245/40 tires on my stock wheels once I get new tires as 225 just isn't cutting it for me. The Sumitomo HTR Z III's are a good, cheap tire. They have a good tread wear and supposedly have good handling characteristics.

With the identical tires (i.e. brand and model), 245/40 will have slightly more grip, 225/45 will have slightly better steering response.
Slightly is a key word.
Staggered in the back will mean slight increase of understeer if I remember correctly.
My next set of tires will be Dunlop Direzza Star Spec, not the cheapest tires in its class, not the most expensive either, I've heard nothing but raves for them.

Don't run anything bigger than a 245 on the stock rim.
Unless you throw some 295 Hoosiers on there for AutoCross. But I don't think that is what you intend to do..
So stick with 225-245.

you can safely put a 245/40 on there.
if you have wider tires in the rear (which I do), it will slightly increase understeer but to the casual drive it won't make THAT much of a difference.

I DO NOT recommend falkens.....I had the 452's and they wore out in like 15k miles and I was not even hard on them...I have Nitto 555's now and they are great....Had a trip to the tail of the dragon on them and they steer and handle nicely and only broke loose once(which was my fault anyway not the tires)....
