You guys must have a lot of restraint

You may have seen my posts in other threads, that I dont own an RX-8, but my sister does. So for the last couple days, I have been driving her 8 since I am installing the audiolink for her and a front license plate.

I gotta tell you, I could not own this car. And mind you, I drive a CTS-V. I would get too many speeding tickets if I drove the 8 every day, or wind up breaking it. I dont recall driving another car that begged to be pushed to the limit like this car. Redline Rule? I think have taken it past 8500 almost everytime I accelerate. I sure do hear the shift buzzer alot. And I have been seeing the traction control light (or stability control?) alot too.

On all other Mazda's I think zoom-zoom is just a tagline. But on this Mazda, its a dead-nuts description. This car makes you drive it fast.

Yeah, this car definitely made me a more aggresive driver. Enjoy your time with the 8!

Who said we had restraint?

In all seriousness, the low gas mileage and tire wear caused by trashing it are probably the main factors that keep me down to earth, a majority of the time.

That's it in a nut shell for me.

I have to start saving for a tire fund so I can start beating the crap out of this thing again.

I agree. Out of all the cars I have driven, this is the one that always seems to "beg" for it, begs to be pushed harder. And I don't feel guilty doing so, either. Redlining in this car is actually good for it.

This car has a certain mystique. The harder you push it, the better it performs. You always have to keep your wits about you because before you know it, you are in an RX8 drug induced trance that has you driving like an animal!!

Yeah , right when i get in the rx8 my right foot turns to lead and presses the gas to full throttle. Dont blame me , its my foot. And my foot has no relationship with my brain....actually nothing is connected to my brain at this moment lol

I agree with the same...have from the start. Hence why so many people seem to have a love/hate relation with it. To really enjoy it, you've got to run it up, and since the powerband is very gradual and linear, you've gotta keep it on a boil. Because of this, you are always temped to keep the pedal down at higher RPMs...which climbs speeds VERY quickly. Nobody really sits up higher (where ALL of it's power lies) and cruises around...everyone accels like mad.

Once you let off the gas and drop back down around 2-3K, it's very tame again...just waiting for it's next push to the limit.

It is a lot of fun, though getting a ticket then a warning kinda made cruising around seem more fun lol. I try not to go over the speed limit too much now, but I love getting up to the speed limit quickly when I feel like it (or just wanna hear 9k and a beep).

flog it all you want, it's impossible to overrev the 8, the engine is max rated to around 12000 rpm from memory, the limiter keeps you well under those revs. At some point past 12k the rotor can begin to outrun the flame front of the fuel combustion and that's when power drops off.

Great post haha. Yeah hmms driving the 8 had gotten me pulled over 3x in 9 month of ownership. Most i've ever been pulled over in my driving life so far haha. one was definitely just because the car looked fast and hot and cop ended up pullin me over to talk to me to be careful haha and gave me a verbal warning.

But yeah this car loves to be pushed hard and its crazy that everytime you push it, it doesn't squeal, whine about it and makes me scared to think where the hell are the limits esp when your carving turns and it takes it with ease, heck, at one point i thought i was carrying a lot of speed into a transition turn and the 8 took it like it was nothing. But I tell my friends when theyre dirivng it and i'm sittin next to them, stop shifting at 4K. Bring it up to redline and theyre like at first what? are u sure? and i'm like yes, bring it up to redline and listen for the beep, it'll thank you for it. Seeing their faces light up and smiles end to end, is awesome. I love my 8. Glad to know there are other people other than 8 owners that appreciate for the car is!

Since I have an AT, my led foot doesn't kick until about 3,500 RPM. Otherwise due to the lack of torque in the car there's no difference between 10% or 100% throttle between 1k-3.5k RPM. You pretty much accelerate at the same speed no matter what

I've actually gotten less tickets...I know the car begs to be pushed, and I can feel the sensation, but it's just not as strong as the one I had back when I drove my Trans Am. That thing practically puts a gun to your head and makes you push it. >_<

Almost 3k in tickets while I had it.

Grumble Grumble, hitting the beep in third(trying to) on an onramp got me a ticket for 81 in 40. BS speed trap. 40 on an onramp?!?!?! Traffic is doing 75 on the highway.

I did fight it down to 41 in a 40. Lidar is awful. I'd have gotten it dropped but was guilty as sin and happy to just pay it :P Maybe not 81mph guilty but I was probably doing 60+ on the ramp. It's a highway for $@#$ sakes.

You have had it for a couple of days to install a liscence plate and an audiolink? That's hilarious! BTW, there is a sick CTS-V in my area spraying a 150 shot.

How well do stock 8's take to Nitrous? I was seriously considering adding a 100 shot on mine.

I know anything past Intake/Exhaust you pretty much have to do some ECU work to not damage the engine, would the same rule apply to nitrous?

I got stuck with a "Wreckless Driving" ticket back in my old TA when I had first gotten it.

Made a right turn onto a street, the tail end swung A LITTLE BIT due to it being a V8, not to mention the tires were a little worn down, it was like having racing slicks on. SO. Dumb. I was in complete control, it might have I crossed 3 lanes because I was about to make a left turn aswell. And it barely slid into the last lane, the other two I crossed were just fine.

100 shot may be a bit too high but I have been running a 50 shot (I drive almost 100 miles a day so I am taking it easy) for a while. See the official nitrous thread. I run only premium Shell 93 and redline additive and so far, so good. But really I only use it about a couple of times a month at the track unless I feel like pulling a little sleeper action (like I did on an M3 last week). Once Charles gets his motor rebuilt we will see what the real potential is.

I made a thread ( 25mph hates RX8 ) and few people got it.

I'm positive those yellow signs on on/off rmaps are recommended speeds. Technically, ramps are part of the highway they're connected to, so if the posted limit is 55 that's your ramp's max.

I like your doubling the signs style though- nothing like getting the adrenaline goin' by hitting tons of those ramps a day. See that car a half mile away and he's taking the exit ramp? Let's see if we can catch him by the end of it. Oh yeah, easily done. That's what the 8 was made for; not sitting on a straight interstate cruising at some lame speed behind a bunch of grandma wannabes.
