your first accident... (minor/major)
So...yesterday, me and my girlfriend were on the way to the movies and some b***h *** in a silver civic who was dirtectly to the right of me in the middle lane tried to merge into my lane w/out checking to see if, you know, if there was a car there......well I looked over for one second, turned my head back to see the hood of my car raise straight up after rear-ending a chevy blazer.... I did absolutely no damage to his bumper, frame, etc. except for Breaking a plastic piece off of his trailer hitch, but.. I need a new hood and front bumper and also, now when I lock and unlock my car, my 4-ways don't flash. So yeah...even though it was a minor bumper-to-bumper it still scared the s**t out of me.
Any similar experiences with your 8?

Your 4 ways probably don't flash because the hood doesn't close properly. Alarm system is not arming.
Never happenned in the 8 (thank god, touching wood) but I got rear-ended in my stealth r/t... I was at 45 degrees with the street, entering a parking lot and some dude in a small toyota wasn't looking and drove straight into me. Since my car was way heavier than his, his front suspension compressed and his passenger-side front-end just went under my car (lifting mine), twisted the exhaust, cracked the tailpipes, ripped part of the bumper urethane cover and popped the trunk...
He lost the whole headlight assembly, crumpled hood and destroyed fender. You could see all around the front passenger wheel, almost looked like an open-wheel car :P

wow, yeah i was pretty happy that my lights weren't damaged, but thanks for helping me understand the reason why my 4-ways don't go off anymore. Another thing is...where it normally says the temp. outside, in my dash, well now there's just blank lines...so could it be that the sensor was lost in the accident or could it be just a lose wire because of the impact? It probably seems that I don't know anything about my car, cuz i don't.. haha i just bought it about a month ago and I know very little about the rx-8 other than it's fun as hell to drive and it's sexy as hell. So when I ask random questions, don't mind me, the more questions I ask, it's just a way of learning more about my car.

Hit a raccoon doing 60mph one night going home -- cracked my front bumper, damaged my condenser, undertray and all that crap. 2K in damage (yay for insurance)
Ummmm had a fat lady in a mini van back into my bumper causing 800 in damage.

She said that she was cleaning up coffee from her cup holder and didnt see any cars...dumbass
Well, long story short, she fucked up the back of the t/a which needed a lot of repair...and got a lot of new mods. But she also royally fucked up my back, a year and a half later im still going for surgeries on it

Pics please! My first accident was when I was 16/17. Was a stop light and a classmate didn't realize there were cars waiting. Her little pickup rear ended my 79 Civic wagon. Amazingly, her truck looked awful, but my Civic looked fine. I still run into her on occasion (on good terms of course).

Make sure that you mention this to the insurance co and to the people who will be repairing the car. If it's not simply a sensor but some wires that have been messed up, you could be chasing an electrical gremlin for a while so make sure they investigate this properly.

yeah true. thanks! I am so lucky the Blazer in front of me had a spare tire on the back of his SUV cuz that stopped most of the impact, if I had hit a car, my headlights would have been gone too for sure!

I had two accidents in my '99 MX5, neither of which were my fault.
First one had just moved into the turning lane to make a left turn 50 yards ahead on a road which was a right hand bend when I suddenly see some 80 year old dumbass in his 1986 Buick Century or whatever it was who was just cruising in said turn lane, crossing intersections, because "he was looking for a street". Me doing 25, him doing 15, head-on collision ensued. $7k damage to the Miata all under insurance, didn't total the car.
Two years later on the freeway, still in the Miata I was in the middle lane doing about 5-10 mph (had just merged onto the freeway from another), traffic was almost at a standstill because this merging section was notoriously slow at the time (basically you have three lanes becoming two in a very short amount of time). Fast lane was moving at normal speed some dumb, fat bitch in a Ford Expedition (!) doing at least 50 (probably more like 60) in the fast lane veered into my lane for no apparent reason, hit the drivers side rear wheel/quarterpanel at probably a 20-30 degree angle so it was more like a glancing but heavy (due to the speed she was going) blow. She kind of bounced off me, losing control, weaving all over the freeway because her right front wheel was just hanging off at this point, sparks everywhere from the body. I think her vehicle was totalled but the Miata lived yet again. Was very close to being totalled (10k damage) but I wanted to keep it so they fixed it up, still drove magnificently after until I traded it in 18 months later (for $5k) on a Mazda 3.
I was almost perfectly fine in both incidents. Most serious injury was in the first accident when the airbags deployed and I got some minor burns from those on my arms.
I still miss that car

First accident was in my 240sx. I had only had it for about a week. I was leaving my neighborhood. This guys wife was following him in a Ford Escape. He was at a complete stop, she didn't think to check to see if anyone was coming. She started her left turn, and once she saw me, she decided to stop. It just so happens that she stopped in the middle of my lane. Clutch goes in (which was a mistake because if I would have let it stall, I probably would have stopped faster), along with the brakes. Too little too late. Didn't total my car, but it would have been an expensive fix. The escape had a scrape on the plastic bumper they have.
In the 8: A friend and I were leaving school (last year, senior year...there was nothing to do, so we were just leaving), I was stopping at a stop sign and he thought I was going. His escort had more damage than my 8. I just had a few cracks.
