Don't need a Magnet, How come the Factory reintroduced an internal Oil Pan Magnet in Series 2 RX-8's...???
Moving Parts??...No you just have 12 side seals Scrapping "Iron" off iron Housings.
Rotor Cut Seals, Oil Control Rings..all rubbing on IRON Housings..
Na..Magnets are not needed...I thought you owned a rotary?

With the side seals, apex seals, etc....how does that matter to the magnet in the oil pan? Do those shavings get into the oil stream somehow?

You have plenty of metal on metal contact with bearings so there is certainly possibility of metal particles getting in the oil. That's the whole reason oil is used in the first place!

yea, its kinda weird that there is no magnet in the S1, cuz even my father's PoS 1995 Nissan Quest has 2 inside the pan (had to replace it one time cuz it hit something, I did the replacement, so I saw it.)
and Mazda add it back in S2.
Is this an "mistake"? or as simple as "oooops, we forgot" ?
Dont know ~~~
(For the Record, FC has it too)

The in-pan magnet is the most effective system, with the disadvantage that it's not easy to clean off. For both this fact and for effectiveness they are usually quite large, something like 1000 times the surface area of the oil plug types. If one places the magnet outside the pan or around the oil filter, most of the magnetic field is shielded by the metal that the magnet is sticking to.

For a History Lesson...
This factory magnet was first used in ANY rotary on the FC RX-7, NOT on the FD RX-7 or S1 RX-8.
It is a small round donut shaped magnet and fits inside the S2 specific oil pan.
Do you want to install one on a S1, sure, if you want it internal you will have to drop your oil pan.
Mazda use this same magnet in most of their banger Automatic Transmissions..
Even some of their Trucks T3500,T4000,T4600 Manual Transmissions.
Tribute Auto has TWO inside it's Auto Trans.
#F401-17-121 Magnet
And no I don't think it is strong enough to ''sit'' on the outside of your Oil Pan.

A good quality Oil Filter magnet IMO are another benefit as the magnet catches metal that the oil filter won't particularly as and while the oil is circulating through the oil pump, engine, filter, etc.

Much depends on the strength of the magnet you use, the Mazda one is a cheap magnet and designed to remove metallic particles when oil is stationary in the oil pan.

There are Oil Pan Wraps that you apply to your Oil Pan, they just stick like Foil glue and supposedly get the shavings to stick to the metal of the pan. They look like thermal wrap for turbo and I've seen it on a few cars. Whether it works or not, no clue, worth a shot maybe.
Lastly, I think S1 RX8\Renny was just a low cost rush job, so many necessary things were left out. Who knows if its Fords or Mazda's call but either way it was F'in dumb.
S2 FtW.

No... what they need to do is say F the 16X and give me that damn 450HP R20B RENESIS 3 Rotor Engine out of the Furai.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_Furai
Thats what they need to do... matter of fact... (Calls Racing Beat)

Well that engine is E100. They can't complain, its natural. I just gotta find where I can get E100. Heck tune it for E85 and I'm sure I can get 420 HP out of it.
and if they do complain... I'll just hit em with the car and drive off.

if its 2 seater, have maybe 280-300 hp, 200 tq, about 3K or less pounds. Im gonna hit it.
I dont need super duper heavy *** Leather seats and stuff. Cloth seat is fine, I actually like cloth seats more cuz in the summer, wow, Im all sweating with it even with AC on, it might have something to do with Rx-8's weak AC so dunno

16x engine may also have some trouble with the intake ports clogging up? I really dont know but it seems in my stupid head it's possible? That direct injection will no longer provide a cleaning action to the intake ports that we now have. The apv's and secondary's are not used as much in the present engine and its well known that they can get very dirty. The primary ports do not. That is because you have fuel/air going through it all the time. Recips intake valve gets cleaned the same way. Recips are designed with a different pvc system to deal with this issue. I dont think rotary's can?
