Mazda produces the most FI vehicles on the market. The problem is the most popular model to us is not FI and we tend to forget when our car is in compared to other sport FI cars.
Here is a list of Mazda's FI vehicles:
CX-7
CX-9
MazdaSpeed3
MazdaSpeed6
Late Model MazdaSpeed Miata.

This article was posted today on motorauthity.com. First time i have read any discussion regarding next gen rx8 to market. I know dates have been thrown out before but this seems more substantiated then all the others.
Short blurb:
The latest information comes from Mazda design boss Ikuo Maeda, who revealed that the next generation RX-8 coupe will be more of an evolution of the current model than a major redesign.
Speaking at this week’s 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, Maeda revealed that the new car will arrive around 2011 and feature the company’s latest design language and technology.

So it seems a few news groups are confirming that a new RX8 is on it's way and that an RX7 is possible. We don't at this time have good word on what will power the next RX8 initially. The MX5 is scheduled to get a facelift again I think for 2011 before it is replaced by the next MX5 which should share architecture with a rotary car. Are we getting a restyle (Big refresh) of the current platform RX8 or something more major? Will it initially come with an updated 13B?

This is the problem with the people on the fence over the engine. The ONLY stat you can truly say the 8 is inferior on is straightline power. Reliability is highly subjective, as most of the reliability issues were for people that didn't know what they were buying or were too lazy to bother taking care of it, assuming it would survive anyway like a piston engine. Mileage complaints are simply retarded.
Before my 2004 RX-8, I had a 1991 RX-7. In the same year I was hit twice, first by a woman who ran a red light and second where I was sandwiched between a minivan that ran a stop sign and a VW doing 50 in a 25 zone. In both cases, these were off center frontal impacts and a V6, V8, or V12 would have meant less crushable space in the nose, and more force being transmitted to me.
Anecdottally, the accidents that have resulted in loss of life in an RX-8 seem to fall into 2 categories: a freight train was involved or alcohol was involved. Aside from those two categories, the survivability in an RX-8 appears to be superb and well above what I'd expect for a car of its weight. Couple that with the braking and handling of the RX-8 and you have a car with a lot of real-world safety that my own experience says would not happen without the rotary engine.
Respectfully, I have to disagree with you; but, if that is truly your feeling, then it's best to sell your car and move on to something else. I, for one, intend to teach my 22 month old daughter to drive in a rotary powered car when she is old enough to learn.

No joke man. It's not double wide! Please!
He's probably still here because he still like the car, the people, and the general nature of the place. Can't fault him for that. I've never had an RX-8 and I'm a moderator!

If true, and unfortunate, but not totally surprising development.
Mazda likely has set the bar quite high for the new rotary in terms of economy, and it is possible that it may not be feasable given the amount of money Mazda is willing to invest.
Unless Mazda can really get a more powerful rotary that is 30=% more efficient that can be shared with other vehicles, the rotary engine may not have much longer to live as a production engine.

This is highly unusual to leave it so late and for Mazda to show Nothing new in Rotary is also very unusual...there is always some sort of teaser by now..
And ALL the Stories of a new rotary were written and have been going around the web for a few months now.... Before the Autocar Bombshell on the 16X of 2 days ago.
What Mazda's Chief Designer wants and gets are two different things...
Sorry, I just can not see ANY market for an all new RX- if they use the same RENESIS, 2 years ago, YES.
Crude Oil price has already doubled in the last 12 months.
I hate to say this but Mazda would be foolish to move.
It is not the right time.

In any case, it is good news.

I'd say Mazda would be better halting production at 2011, then release another model with 10 year old technology. Doesn't really add up. It's either FI, or the 16X, or both. But not the same '232hp' Renny. It's not going to happen. There has to be a way they are planning to increase power in a 2012 model, or its already a failure.

I always try to be careful with what little info I receive from Mazda contacts, enabling me to not get chopped off, however, I think you all know everything I know at this point. I've been led to believe that more than one car was being discussed; now it's obvious that at least one of them does not have a green light.
Understand that nothing I know in regards to Mazda's future products (That is not already in print) is fact. I never ask direct questions of those high up so they don't have to give direct answers. If more is revealed to me than I think was wise, I'm always shrewd in protecting and considerate in sharing. It's a tactful game.
