Im'dreaming, but IMHO there is space for 2 different rotary model:
a)an hardcore rx-7 100% pure sports 2 seater marginally heavier than a base mx-5
b) a more big rx-8 with bigger freestyle doors...a cross between a sport car/coupè and a sports sedan.slightly bigger than current 8
but, as i 've said....just dreams.......

I dream the same dreams and believe they are plausible. It would even make sense in terms of sharing cost. Some of us want a strict two seater and a lot of us think the 4 door rotary sports car is a winner. Of course MX5 uses the same architecture.

another possibility (for the bigger one, i think in a couple of year that we'll see a new rx-7 concept similar to my toughts) is to mate the hybrid system of Premacy h2 cutting the h2 stuff.
They have build a number of cars ok for going into normal traffic. it' a big piece of work.
They can use this experience for build an hybrid rotary flagship.
always just dreams?

Considering how many interested customers it takes to sell enough cars for a company like Mazda, it seems like basically no one gives a **** about rotaries, in fact most people who are somewhat into cars don't even know what rotaries are. I am all for a new rotary but with so little interest they can't have that much resources to work with for development. I will be shocked if it has over 270 bhp and gets a realistic 20+ city.

I guess much will depend on any lead-up promotion, leaks, propaganda, motor-show prototypes, etc.
PLEASE Mazda, NO more Concepts...we have seen enough, we know you can do it..
Unfortunately because of Mazda unforgivable RENESIS 1 engine issues I am pretty sure they are just waiting to see how the 09's (RENESIS II) go in the field (I think I have said this before).
Mazda just can not afford another engine issue for the rotary.
Having said that there is still a lot of goodwill from Mazda "rotary enthusiasts", whether this turns into SALES is another story.
As much as I would like to see a ball tearing, massive horsepower, fire breathing monster...
at what cost??, I don't see a $40K US ($75K AUD) RX- selling very well.

Yeah, I was about to say. The Z has just recently reached the 40k Market, as has the Evo. Mainly because they have years of user base behind them. Once the Rotary and RX series begins to be a huge seller, they can think about going upmarket.

I want streetable Nitromethane.
Imagine making all of our automobile fuel from Propane....
I am sure we could overcome the whole exploding Nitromethane stations thing and noxious exhaust fumes.

I started to try to make that argument. Went for the EMOP, and Flashes, then struggled... so I fully see your point.
Not really sure about Nitromethane, but Im damn sure about Ethanol. Mazda needs to start pushing a Dual tune for that, at the very least.

I guess they were imported, I'm not sure if they sold them new, but they may have. When I had my MX-5 I drove to Bodø in Northern Norway (almost as far as to Italy ), and the ex's father there had owned a few rotaries it turned out when we started talking about cars since I had a Mazda.

Revised 2011 RX-8 Plans
My plan was to sell my 2006 Mazda 3 5 door Hatch and purchase a 2011 RX-8 with the Renesis 16X engine. This appears to be hopeless since the engineers at Madza cannot get it done after all these development years. So, this what I will start driving more often:
