1st year of sales
The 03/04 RX-8 is just on 12 months old & Mazda have just posted the FY2003 sales figures for the car.
This is total production from start in May-03 to Apr-04 = 75,736
Japanese sales are .......18,366 Rest are exports
Interesting stat. .......... FD Rx-7 production from 92-02 was 65,000.
1st year of RX-8 exceeds 10 years of FD production

You see what happens when you build a nice comfy... peformance car... that is reliable... thats the main reason RX-8 selling well ... hope mazda keeps demand high... and makes just the right amount... and not build too many...

There all here in Australia mate! Excluding drive days I've seen at least a dozen since the Aussie launch mid last year

Good god, they must all be in Austin then. I saw 5 of them the last time I drove downtown last Friday. I see at least 3 a week on my commute outside of the other 2 people I work with that have them ( I was 1st ).

I'm actually kind of surprised to see those production numbers. Like other members, I just haven't seen that many 8's on the road - which is nice, btw. I kind of like the thought of having a car that everyone doesn't own....one of the principle reasons that I would not consider the '05 Mustang is that it will soon be in every rental car fleet in the US....ugghh

Ya'll gotta remember thats less than 60,000 cars for the entire world outside of japan. Say they sold 30,000 in the US. Thats out of the current (estimated) USA population of 293,270,451. Or a little less than 1 in 10,000.
Yeah, thats like, a very small number :D

Anyone know how many 350z's are on the US roads? I see them everywhere, and as I said in another thread, the RX-8 has more than 2 seats, costs less and is more comfortable than the 350Z, which means it's likely to be more mainstream than the 350z.... thus I'm full well expecting to see it everywhere.

And I also know my inlaws have 6 cars for 2 people. And there's plenty more people with more than 1 car in this country. It's an average, not an exact number, and it takes that sort of thing into account.

Those are fantastic numbers, they harken back to the sales figures of the original RX-7. Mazda expected to sell a couple thousand cars and ended up maxing out the production line the first year with more than 50,000 units sold.
I hope that the RX-8 does for the rotary today what the Savanna RX-7 did twenty-six years ago.

There are 226,000,000 above the age of 16 in the country and 5,000,000 above 85 giving us about 221,000,000 that could drive a car if they had a licence and a car.
According to the Burea of Transportation in 2000 there was 5.5 million NEW PASSENGER CARS sold. And a totoal of 12.5 new VEHICLES sold in the USA.
Also according to the BT in 1999 there were 207,800,000 vehicles on the road in the USA of which 132,400,000 were passenger cars.
So there you have it, someone else can do the math, I hate the math part.

:D hehe, just kidding :D . If it wasn't for the huge US market many cars would remain only prototypes. Cheers!
