It's a 6 port. That's a typo. Many of us have already seen it.

I didn't want to post a new thread in case this was already known but

Did anyone notice that if you "build a car" on the mazda website the 6MT only has 232 hp?

Is mazda admitting these days that it is not quite 238?

It's the new testing standard they use that produces those numbers. Nothing at all has changed otherwise. It's just the test method. A lot of cars showed a decrease in numbers with the new testing standard. It doesn't mean they have less power than they once did. Just the test changed.

Well I figured the engine didn't change at all. I was guessing that they were getting more realistic with their hp numbers... which kind of sucks...

I'm assuming this standard is mandatory for all car manufacturers?
/goes to look up other cars' hp numbers

The 8 could even have gained some power. I guess the dynos will let us know in time.

I'm not hung up on numbers so much. The car feels wonderfully powerful to me. Of course I have been driving my mom's MPV mostly, but it stills feels very well powered and quick to me. The HP number wasn't actually a consideration for me. I first started with the fact that I liked it looks. I then looked to see what features and options it had and were available. Things like HP fell very low on my list when I was considering a car. Other things took priority.

Dunno why people freak out about the horsepower. A 200+ horsepower car is still pretty damn powerful. I was at a dyno pull yesterday and someone brought in their stock '05 WRX STI. It's listed at 300hp by Subaru, you know what it tested at? 245 at the wheel! Numbers are just numbers, how good a car is depends on how it really drives.

On AWD dynos the driveline losses are usually 25%, so 245 AWHP is very indicative of 300 real hp. Unfortunately we are getting about 180 whp for our cars on a regular RWD dyno, that usually translates to about a 210-215 hp car.
