2007 Rx-8
Hi everyone,
I just read in a magazine that the RX-8 is due for a facelift in october 2006.
It literally states that a "restyled" RX-8 is to be presented in october 2006, (presumably the 2007 model year).
It makes sense as the 350 Z is actually improved for 2006 and an all-new s2000 is on it's way. Mazda should improve the car if they wanna stay in the game.
I've also read that Mazda is currently working on direct injection Renesis prototypes and might as well use them in the RX-8.
I know there's a lot of speculation out there and I'm taking this cautiously, but the fact that the RX-8 is reaching the middle of its life span makes me wonder if there might be some truth behind this.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all from Spain
Miguel

stop flooding ur engines
the tokyo show displayed a concept rotary with a hybrid motor attached to it. the styling was typical concept, as in, not anywhere realistic. but its shooting where mazda is going with the next rx8. 2007 is a little close for that concept to become reality tho. id aim for 2008 model year.

Way too early. People don't even know what the rx8 looks like.
And, that's like getting Carmen Electra a facelift.

^^Could be. There are rumors of a "full-sized" mid-engine/rear-engine RWD convertible. I say "full-sized" because the idea is coming from the old Honda Beat... which was a "kei" (light) class car.

Regarding the RX-8 facelift I believe the mag refers to the presentation of an improved model for 2007, not a new-from-scratch one. Much like the 2006 350Z.
I believe 2007 is actually a good time for the 8 to undergo some improvements that will grant it a much better position against its competition.

i doubt i highly doubt that the rx8 will change at all for 2007... i mean the rx8's first lineup began in 2004. mazdas not that stupid. and a new s2k, roadster style car is very doubtful. i doubt theyll make another car like it. why? cuz its no longer their aniversary celebration and they make more money with cars like civics
u can keep wishing and dreaming but with no word from mazda it means crap
btw wat magazine and who's this source?

It's a mag I bought in Madrid, Spain. It's not on sale in the U.S. I believe. It's called Autofácil, not a bad mag at all.
December issue had an article in which all new and facelifted cars in 2006 are mentioned. I doubt they are wrong, manufacturers just tell them what to put.
Cheers

When they say facelift more than likely it could be minor things like changing the tailights to not be so altezza looking. They could also do minor changes to the grille (front bumper), possibly change the standard rims, and/or add some items to the interior like new colors (maybe seats and trim that are all one color instead of the color inserts) as well as automatic climate control in the U.S.! None of them really major but just little cosmetic things that don't really qualify for it to be a full on redesign. It can happen, an example could be the G35 sedan in which they changed the front to look more like the coupe only a couple of years in! I know Infinity isn't Mazda or vice versa but I don't think it's beyond reality for small changes like these to happen even in the 3rd model year!

No. That's a more "RX-8 like" car... but bigger. This car is only two door, two seater... MX-5 sized.

I read in the R&T January issue that at the Tokyo show they revealed a concept called the Mazda Senku. They say that it's "positioned as a possible replacement" for the Rx8. It'll use a direct injection rotary engine coupled to a hybrid electric motor. The car is supposed to have a 50/50 weight distribution just like the Rx8.

It could be a facelift as simple as the S4/S5 FC's back in the day, little cosmetic tweaks in and out to recharge the community to buy a new one. Bout right for those who got 3yr leases on the RX8s in 2004 eh?

There is supposed to be a concept car that is potentially a 2008 model year that is a cross between a Miata and an RX-8. It is supposed to be styled like an RX-8 except with only two seats and two doors, with a Miata engine. I think it was tentatively called an MX-3.

Yeah, there's no way they're going to pull a full redesign, it's just going to be a mid-life refresh. Look at the Mazda 6 - they made a few tweaks and changes to that and I think it still looks nice, if not a little bit better. No need to break out the picket signs and torches, 90% of the population probably won't even notice a difference.

There is a minor facelift for the 2007 MY.

07 is suppose to be a facelift year. to me, it seems like that it can be a completely
different look. the FC was produced from 86-91, which is 6 different model years,
then it was upgraded to the FD. if the 8 is to follow the same pattern as the 7, it
seems like 07 is suppose to be a facelift/upgrade year. my .02
