Great read. Even though the 8 could use more power (and hopefully the 16x addresses this), it is still good to see that real car guys appreciate what this car is about despite it's relative lack of power.

i really like what they did with the rear of the car. no more of that dumb shrouding around the exhaust pipes. i like the front, too. i actually got the chance to sit in one of them a few months ago and i liked it a lot. i wish it were available when i bought mine.

"The only big downer though is available colors — Velocity Red, Black or Aurora Blue. This car needs to be Japanese racing white."
100% Agreed MAZDA LISTEN PLEASE

Recently test driving a R3, I think I scared the young (Cute) new sales-woman the way I drove her (the car, not the girl :P).
This car is way better than my '05 and I desperately want it! I have never ever had a car do the things I asked her to do.
She felt so light, so nimble, so quick. So awesome, so hot. So... so... orgasmic. If this is the way Mazda is heading add me to this train.

^^. I just declared to my family that we'll adopting an R3 shortly. I had the pleasure of driving one last weekend. I showed up to the dealership in my fairly modded 07 STi, and I was ready to trade then and there after the test drive, and I LOVE my STi. I found it interesting in the way that they compared the r3 to the EVO because I feel the same way. Even though the STi is a great car, I still longed for the 04 RX-8 I had before it. Now, after driving an R3, there's no going back.

I get a joy driving mine every day, it is never boring, I love the feel, handling, everything....
It is a real shame not more people get to drive and own this car, if you look after it the car will reward you all the time.
Just make sure you run in your gearbox...they take a few thousand miles, make sure it warms up and don't be in a rush to change gears fast until it wears in a little.
And I REALLY recommend you change the Diff and Trans OILS after 2000 miles or so, irregardless what the dealer says, or do it yourself...Redline is very good.

300 watt Bose sound system with Bluetooth — but inexcusably, no iPod connection
Plus there are four seats and those “freestyle” suicide doors to make them useable. But save any long distances for your children — kids only back there
Otherwise a good review

I love m rx8... i have 2005 model... which cant be compared since i have coilovers and sways, etc etc and it handles muuch better than any stock r3...
But i am really digging the new r3 if it werent for that motor.. It needs a updated power plant with more power.

Thanks for the kind words and the advice man. The only problem now is that the car I test drove is the one I want to buy, and while I wasn't romping it too hard, lets say I could have been more gentle on a car with 3 miles on the odo It was warmed up and I didn't shift quickly, buy I may or may not have revved it to 7k a at full throttle a few times. Whoops! Anyway, I think it'll be fine, but I'll be sure to change those fluids as per your advice.

I'm glad you consider it an upgrade as well. I'm considered telling the Sti forum about my move, but those guys would tear me to shreds. When I had my 04 RX-8 during the winter I ran Blizzak ws-50 snows ( have Blizzak Lm 22's on the STi for winter). While the STi is an animal in the snow, I was always amazed at how good the RX-8 was. I live on a steep hill, and to this day the RX-8 is the only non AWD car that could easily make it up in bad snow. Just goes to show how good weight distribution and dedicated snow tires make a difference in the white stuff.
