I always believed the rx8 was perfection in styling. I commented before that anything done to the look would be for the worse.
The first rx8 I saw was red, and the most striking thing was the front wheel arches highlighted by the black cosmetic side vents. When I took delivery of my black rx8 I was immediately depressed when I could not see the black side vents any more, due to blending in with the black paint.
The best thing about the rx8 rear is the smoothness and lack of edges in the transition all the way around. Sometimes I think I could drive at 85 mph and spit a loogie out the driver-side window, and have it not hit the back due to the curvature of the entire hind quarters. But of course it always hits the back windows and gells up to a thick consistency, making it harder to remove at the next gas stop.
The boxiness and lines added to the 2009 model rx8 spells mazda3. To some people, evidently that is a good thing. I disagree.

FYI For those of us living in So Cal, I drove by the Mazda Techicnal Center in Irvine on Red Hill and there are several 09's in the parking lot. Looks better in person than the photos. I liked the stock wheels and the rear bumper is cleaner.
Did not like the openings for the oil coolers, coolers themselves already looked trashed from road debris.

I think they are inspire by the JA version FC which came with Tail Light design like the corvette and GTR. so my only guess is they are copying off the JA FC version Tail lights. I always thought 8 looks like a updated version of the FC (which is my favorite rx7) proably why i like the 8 look so much.
btw the JA version the early 90's model, more like the model closer to the end of FC production.
