It looks like they just tacked on a bunch of random crap here and there.

Maybe it looks a lot better in person though.

Not sure if I've seen this 'R3' I keep seeing but as for this one, I DON'T LIKEY that front grill and oil cooler vents need to be revamped they missed the mark for sure.

ya not feeling the new grill, side vents, or wheels (on the stock one, the one's above are perfect), at least they "fixed the flooding"

thanks for the pictures, i meant though in real life (in person photos) not with all the lighting and everything. i was actually pretty interested in the new rx8's when the photos first appeared but when these photos arrived (this thread), it didnt impress me much

and i agree with mr n rider (who i miss oh so very much), the mazdaspeed version looks more impressive than the base imo

The first time I see one of these (base version) on the road I think I'll throw up a bit in my mouth.

I love my car, i think i will stick with it. Besides they dont make Phantom blue anymore.

I can wait for the new generation 8 in 2011, its only 2 and a half years away.

hey Mazda, if you (still) employ the limp noodles that were tasked with ruining the 8's classic good style give them this memo for me: did you do to our beautiful car it makes me want to taking something really good and now aside from the LED tail lights and lip spoiler , every other change appears tacked on ...like the big honking front grill hole with that tacky black plastic thing up top more black plastic cat wiskers in the oil cooler holes the change of side vent to a dorky side light the rear bumper the mish-mash interior redo dumbing down what was already sparce content, it's just lame. My message .... then maybe issue a press prelease saying you were just fooling about that Detroit show intro thing you did....

How long do you think it will take somebody to rip out the fog lights and the black plastic thingy and put a real grill in there? If nothing else those holes are huge making for good airflow.

Also, does anybody know if the split opening underneath the main front grill is functional? If so, what does the air feed?

Honestly, I'm not too surprised that RX-8 owners in general find the current 8 to be more attractive.

If Mazda's goal with the facelift was to capture a new audience while retaining a very strong resemblance to the origional then they hit it nose on.

I honestly don't know about the audience they're aiming for. Most of them already have a WRX or STI.

If I had never seen an Rx8 before, and the current and new one were lined up together comparison-wise. I would think the new one was in fact older looking, style-wise. The current one is clean-cut, without fuss.

Mazda seems to have gone out of its way to accentuate points on the car that never need accentuating. And 19" stock wheels?? holy crapola. The 18's I had picked up more than enough road noise. How much is going to 19's in an Rx8 style vs perfomance??

It has a big smile up front now.

Who was on the panel that voted this was a cool design?

Don't they have consumer test panels?
