Well I hate to say it, but it's true. On this track, amazing handling does not excuse lack of power.

the 8 has a better ride over the z though

both cars definitely have their up's and down's

for me at least I will look good losing...the z is so ugly IMO

Oh wait a sec...I bought a turbo kit....so I guess I will look good winning!

I think it faired pretty well. The Z is no slouch and SHOULD beat the 8. Just be happy that the course didnt have many more long straights or it would have been much worse (and also be happ they didnt put it against the 09 Z). On paper the Z should beat the 8 with ease, so its no surprise to see it win in a real world race. I mean its not a freakin slug like a Stang GT with poor suspension, it is relatively light (compared to hp) with a track ready suspension. Was a lil closer than i thought it would be actually. Dont get me wrong, i bleed RX-8, but u have to give credit where it is due.

I love the fact they are still pitting the 8 up against much more powerful foes, says alot about the car and its engineering.

I think the Mustang would beat the RX-8 on quite a few circuits; generally the ones that reward power.

The RX-8's element isn't really the racetrack; rather it's either the tight autocross course, or out on the open road (or rally special stage for those of you who dislike breaking speed limits) where you don't get multiple cracks at a corner and so a car's intuitiveness helps greatly.

I love the RX-8, but Mazda really needs a wake-up call. There's a reason why its sales are so low - the 350Z has it beat into the ground with 306hp versus 232hp. Sure, the 8 is a lot more fun to drive, but the horsepower really is pathetic. The even more horrifying 212hp automatic engine is the nail in the coffin. Of course nowadays, nobody wants to drive stick anymore, which is why so many Zs you see are automatic-they're just as powerful as the sticks. A 212hp engine with a 7500rpm redline can barely qualify as a sports car.

Is it really that difficult to design a rotary engine with 300hp? The 350Z has seen a number of significant changes since it was introduced, the RX-8 has had one. And the engine is exactly the same.

Are you kidding me? Look it up yourself, douchebag. I'm giving a pretty basic, plain-words rendition of how I feel. If you want more information, I suggest you learn to do things for yourself and find some better acronyms.

well ...as far as i know ....rx7 has more hp than the 8 ...when i heard the 8 was gonna come out , i was hoping for something more powerful like 350hp with twin turbo or something like that...but instead , they made a non-FI 232hp renesis engine.... dont get me wrong , the 8 its fun to drive but to be honest , kinda got let down by mazda ....

and i thought that they would at lest do that for the 09' but yea...its excatly da same engine~

Back to the video...

I'm amazed that he runs the RX8 that long with the rev warning beep going off. At times he has both hands on the wheel, the beep is sounding off, and he looks like he has no intention of changing gears. Zoom zoom!

all credibility was lost the moment you got melodramatic and offensive. Probably a good thing this site doesn't use a rep meter... yours would most likely have sunk you into red immediately. Your original post had some decent insight but your response was... lacking.

It all depends on the course. An upshift which requires a downshift for a slower section may be slower than just keeping it at the rev limit and not shifting for the slower section. It's a trade off between increased top speed before the braking zone vs. time lost due to shifting.

Unfortunately if you hit the rev limit in the 8 it will cut power instead of bouncing off the rev limit. In my miata, my rule of thumb is if it's bouncing off the revs like bap-bap-bap-bap before the corner than I'll keep it in 2nd. If it's bap-bap-bap-bap-bap-bap-bap-bap, then I'll shift to 3rd to attain the higher top end then back down to 2nd for the corner.

Trolls like these add a smile to my day. If you make a claim be prepared to provide the burden of proof.
Here's a YOY comparison for the recently completed month of...

July 08 vs. July 07 % Chg
350Z 795 1,556 -48.9 %
RX-8 355 654 -45.7%
S2000 201 418 -55.6%

Sources can be found @ http://www.theautochannel.com/

Looks like the Z is doing worse than the RX-8. S2k thrown in the mix to clear some anecdotal conjectures. Your posts still fail.

Garrett FAILS.
I guess that makes me a douchebag.

These kids from the woodwork that thrive on hosepowa, go buy a musclecar or something, or a Nissan. Look, there's a 350Z Clearance banner ad below this.

Garrett, taking the internet too seriously since April.

It's interesting to see the sales plummet for the Z. I didn't think it was that much!
