2010/2011 RX-7 Motortrend article

?? what the hell are you smoking? Someone said that the 2-rotor engine went from 255hp turbo to 232hp n/a as a technological leap. I corrected that person saying that the last series FDs actually had 330hp not 255. This was collaborated by someone who doesn't live in America and actually has access to Series 8 RX-7s who said that he has seen them dyno at over 270whp stock. Accounting for ~16% drivetrain loss, that makes for roughly 330bhp(and since the 255hp of the S6 FD and the 232hp of the MSP are both measured at the fly and not at the wheels, it's only fair to say it was 330hp turbo to 232hp n/a, not 255hp turbo to 232 n/a.), which is exactly what I said.

Well if this doesn't end all the naysayers about the engine having a larger displacement than 1.3L and making over 300 hp nothing will....this vid shows the test mule that the guy ws talking about earlier. I can get more pics if you need them

Sorry guys i told you wrong, Its not Motortrend, The article is in August Automobile magazine on Page 80. Motortrend basically has the same future performance cars that Automobile is covering, verified this when i went back to my barbershop and picked up the magazine again. I took phone pics of the info to... i am looking for a 3gp converter to show you the article. Or if your at your local news stand , you can see the mag there.

1935 lbs. FTW!
Mazda stated themselves that 300HP is there base target in the article. If Mazda said that why would they shoot for anything less. Doesn't and wouldn't make sense.
With technology getting better , Mazda could further upon the Renisis motor. Look at the current Renisis now, it makes 232HP in N/A form compared to its FD counterpart that made 255HP with TWIN TURBOS, not one turbo but two!
Thats 23HP more than our N/A rotary, and it used two turbos to get that 255HP goal.
And you guys really think Mazda couldn't give us a base line 300HP rotary? You guys are nuts or either you have a few brain cells that have died.
And as far as fuel econemy, what rotary that you know of gets good gas milage?
Its the nature of the beast......

We all know the RENESIS doesn't make 232, everyone is dynoing about 170-175 whp. With a 15% loss in power through the drivetrain that is 200-205 tops. The AP2 S2000 is SAE rated around 237 but they actually dyno around 210whp which translates back to 240.

Go Texas Longhorns!
all the constenation over the actual HP numbers and the euro spec 228BHP number was right all along.

Also, the Z is not that far afield of a Cayman S. Surely most would choose the Porsche over the Nissan for myriad other reasons, but in terms of pure performance, I don't think anyone would argue that you can spend about half the money you'd be spending on a Cayman and get 90+% of the performance in a Z.

but
202 RWHP at 13% loss is 232 HP at the fly wheel.
which one seems more correct?
20% loss or 13%?
and frankly it is pretty hard to imagine that the drive line of the FE is 7% more efficient than the FD.

ill tell you what i heard today from what i consider to be a credible source-
you all know how dedicated (possibly "obsessed") the rotary engineers are at Mazda- often working on their own time like during the "creation" of the renesis. Well they have apparently again been burning the mid-night oil on the "renesis 1.5/2.0 project" to the point that some of them were quite clearly exhausted. So Mazda has given them all a mandatory vacation for a little while.
this halt on rotary work could be the basis for the rumor ash heard

^ uh you're a little late to the party man. This "another rx7 thread" started over 6 weeks ago.
But, as much as I DO want another rx-7, it is kinda like movie sequels...You hope to god they live up to the prestige of the first or it will ruin the entire franchise. But hey, the FC was better than the original, and the FD was far superior to the FC. Mazda knows how important theri halo car is. They would NOT remake another rx-7 unless it was superior to the FD. Which I guess is why we are all having to wait so long.

so many rumors, so little truth.
