Maybe the reason it took Mazda so long to rework the Rx8 is that they know no matter how fast they work or what they do Rx8 owners are always going to complain. Every thread i read it's always the majority of people complaining about how there is no new one or if there is a new one its not enough. Complain complain complain, go out to your garage and look at your Rx8 you don't really want to trade that in anyways(it's beautiful) so who cares what it looks like.

Well good for us...tough love is ... tough. Perfection is not attainable. But we know Mazda has it in them to excel beyond reasonable expectations, to design new rotary perfection and we'd all be amiss as true belivers if we didn't demand it thru our user/owner live critique.

What if we were not here to demand better?

I agree with you about going out in the garage to look. That's all I have as it rests all winter time

I'm thinking exactly along the same lines. Facelifts are meant to be improvements, but I've seen many a time when the "facelifted" car ends up looking worse than the original. At this stage, I have already placed an order for the "new" rx-8, but it's still not too late, I can still pull out of the order, and pick one of the cars on the dealer's lot instead. The only problem is I dont have enough facts, or photos rather to make that decision. I just can't wait til more detailed photos of the facelift come out.

Secondly, I'm still undecided on whether I like the new alloys. You guys think the alloys in the pic will be the ones in the actual car? Looking at Mazda's design direction of late, I wouldn't be surprised if those are the actual alloys---which would be the same as the US spec 40th Ann edition. If you ask me honestly, I would say the old alloys look like they suit the car better....hmmm.....decisions, decisions, decisions

You could always trade for the olds wheels. That's not a big issue at least.

Yeah, that's true. But somehow I don't like making too many changes to a car. A version 1 Rx-8 should remain a version 1 Rx-8, and if I go with the version 2 (facelift) then I might as well accept all the changes that come along (ie new wheels).

As you can guess, I'm not too much into modifying cars. I prefer to go with set factory/shop options.

The other issue is that from the spy pics, we still have no idea how the front, rear, head and tail lamps will actually look like. As an optimist, and a Mazda fan I would like to think that the car would be more aggressive and "fresh", but that big "smile" on the front bumper is making it look more and more like something out of the "Cars" animation/cartoon. I just cant wait until proper photos are released, that way I can make an "informed" decision about which version I would prefer.

YEAH, I have faith with the BOYS at Mazda provided the changes were penned by the original RX-8 Designer Mr. Nakashittta...or whatever his name is...

I can only hope, but I'm sure the suburu guys didn't think their car would be butchered. Mazda seems to be on the right track though.

Again, I agree, cant say I like the 40TH Anniversary Alloys, lets hope they stay with that model as I prefer the standard FE01 ones.
You never know the new FE02 RX-8 could have a new set of their own.

I am also like you with mods, been there and done that, there is nothing wrong with personalizing your car a little with say genuine accessories but I think many here have gone overboard and it is a waste of $$$'s as you never get it back and when you trade it tends to put off buyers or dealer as it signals a car that has been lets say....well used.

You will always get a higher resale if you keep it original.

Besides, almost All of these so called mods for extra speed or power are questionable as I believe Mazda have wrung out most of the Ponies with the standard parts..like the exhaust. Hymee's exhaust is beautifully made in stainless but it adds no gains from what I have read.
The original brakes are already superb, maybe braided hydraulic hose lines may firm up the pedal all so slightly, I will renew the bleeders with "speedbleeders".
I am a believer in pre mixing (and yes only synthetic here), but only minimal, again I think many here are pre-mixing with a ratio way too high with the MOP still connected.
I am not sold on the use of 100% synthetic engine oils, IMO if you use a top quality Mineral oil and change regularly it will suffice.

Some of us call it the "Mod Bug" and it hits hard. We simply love to tinker with our cars even if performance is not to gain. I for one love it and keep all my stock parts so if I think about selling the car I can put it back to stock.

One mans 'waste of money' is anothers 'love to tinker' pastime lol. And car as investment? Worrying about eventual 'resale value'? You'd have better luck in the stock market In either case, enjoy to the fullest the car you've got while you have it. Tommorow is not guaranteed.

Completely unrelated to this thread really, but I can't agree more. Enjoy it while you've got it- no regrets.

That's an aftermarket kit that's been out for a year or so (including the taillights). The name slips my mind. Not the updated 8 though.
