Left in 2010 and it was the best thing I have ever did. Sold that gas guzzler RX8 about a month after that last forum post to a guy and his wife and they sold it to another guy before they even registered it. Bought a 08 Civic SI sedan that is just as much fun to drive and gets 25-30MPG all day long. I decided to come back and see if the forum was any better/worst about admitting the serious issues the RX8 has. From what I can tell about the same.
One thing is for sure the RX8 finally ended production, and it was a miracle it lasted as long as it did. The economy and engine failures alone should have doomed this vehicle long before 2011. Fortunately I only lost about 500 bucks and drove the RX8 for 6-7 months before I sold mine. Looking back I kinda miss the rear wheel drive on that car. I lit up the back tires a couple times just for the hell of it in a parking lot or two. Probably burned a gallon or more of gas and oil every time I did it though.
Just wondering if the guys that claimed to be getting 25+MPG out of their RX8's ever exposed their secrets as to how they achieved this incredible efficiency or were they just blowing smoke up everyones you know what.

... are you aware that the last post in this thread was 2.5 years ago?
And no, it isn't smoke. Just uncommonly good engine health and a driver that knows how to drive smoothly. A few guys are up to 28mpg.
Did you really "come back" to ask about mileage in a car that you haven't owned in 2 years?

We're so happy that you sold your RX-8, cuz you're a moron.
Civic fits you perfectly. It's designed for morons, enjoy your failed wheel drive and don't cry when your brake fades

lol civic as fun as an rx8. I have had my 04 rx8 for 1 1/2 years and the only thing i had to do was 1 o2 sensor plus I'm a mechanic and i did it cheap anyway. Well i do maintenance like diff fluid, tranny fluid, oil changes and coolant flush also if you wanna count that too. That is just what any good owner of any car should do though. Real sports cars don't get 30 mpg on the highway. I love the way the rx8 looks, drives and handles. Such a fun car. And if im gonna guzzle gas, might as well look good doin it!

I am VERY HAPPY with my 08 CIVIC SI in every aspect of the vehicle, and I ACTUALLY HAVE gotten over 30MPG on the highway with it. NO BS!!!! My average is 26MPG mostly city driving.

28MPG??? Complete BS!!! No one REPEAT NO one has ever gotten above 18MPG in one of these RX8 Guzzlers. Except maybe downhill with a 30MPH tailwind coasting half the time. Quit spouting BS to try and keep people interested in these cars and tell the truth for a change. "just uncommonly good engine health" load of crap. The factually stated milage on any of these vehicles is 14-16MPG. I got 15 when I drove mine 2 years ago, JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. I did not buy it for the milage back then, but could not live with it after I bought the car. Nor could I live with the possibility of engine failure haunting me around every curve. It seems the ranks of defenders have shrunk and now fewer and fewer are around to fanboy your cause.
I am VERY HAPPY with my 08 CIVIC SI in every aspect of the vehicle, and I ACTUALLY HAVE gotten over 30MPG on the highway with it. NO BS!!!! My average is 26MPG mostly city driving.

And yes, a few are up to 28mpg highway. It's amazing what you can do with the right setup and tune on a healthy engine

I got 24 something MPG on my last road trip and that's about 80% high way and 20% NYC garbage traffic.
U like ur civic? Good for you. Again enjoy ur failed wheel drive, and brake fading . Oh don't feel bad at autox and track. especially when ur econ wannabe sporty car box getting owned left and right
not being defensive, it's well known, proven truth. go check.
Back to MPG? OK. In fact. I'm going to have a 200 miles round trip tomorrow. Want me to do a MPG report just to shut your pie hole?

I have no problem with people who want to buy a Honda civic because of reliability and good fuel economy and just a decent all around commuter vehicle. But to spout that it is "Fun" to drive is... stupid, you clearly have no idea of what "fun" actually is. My 8 eats Si's for breakfast every time. Also, to talk like your fuel economy is THAT AMAZING!!!, there is always better, especially considering they have hybrid/electrics now.

Oh and I've gotten around 22-23mpg and average around 19 in the city. Check both of my fuelly accounts... multiple times as well. It's not impossible at all, it's good to see you found a car suitable to your driving ability.

I get 33 in my SUV. Your civic isn't even good at the gas mileage game.
Honestly it sounds like you regret selling your 8 for a POS and now your tying to make yourself feel better. You came back in hopes that everyone here would be complaining about the gas mileage, especially with the high gas prices but your attempt failed.
In a last ditch desperate attempt to make yourself feel better you call everyone here liars on their mpg figures. Your civic beats the RX-8 at mpgs on average so leave with that.

you are by far the dumbest moron I have ever seen on this forum. I managed to get 473.7km all highway, which equaled to 24.2mpg. So with some slower speeds and some mods to make the car lighter i can see people achieving better mileage , 15mpg you really have to be racing every light you see to just stop withing 200 ft and do it all again. You are better off with your civic, VTEC YO

I did a pretty fun trip today.
Didn't go to the 200 miles trip originally planned, cuz of shitty weather this morning. instead, I went for a 137.9 miles round trip today.
I reset the odo right after I fill up this morning.
Route goes like this -
From BP station, Woodbury Outlet, Back to NY to 34th ST, drove downtown to have dinner, drove GF home, back to the gas station(which is just about 1.5 miles away from gf home)
Before I fill up this morning I put 8 oz of premix (as I always do) cuz tank was nearly empty.
About 20/80 city/hwy driving, and when I mean City Driving, I mean the kind of city driving show in the pic, took it when I was bored as **** stuck at 34th ST.
then at the last fill-up, it had about 1/2 tank left. See pics.
This is the kind of traffic I had today in the middle of the city. took it around 6-7 oclock today
How many miles I drove today.
how much gas I've burnt. For accuracy, I went back to the same station/pump.
You can do math right? I got almost 20 mpg, if I go all highway I should have no problem getting 24 even 26 mpg. cuz before my car came back to the city (around 4 something), I had more than 1/2 tank left and if I drive straight home (which is another 15-20 miles), I will hit 24 mpg easily.
it was pretty clear on i87, and people were driving at least 75 ... cruise control rocks
so, now I have my evidence. what kind of proof do u have other than your big mouth? You should be happy cuz I did this test just for you
where is your bullshit now? ***** out already ?
in your face bitch.
Your city driving is what? 3 cars on a 5 lane highway? ur pos city driving is nothing compare to NYC. alright ? so don't even try to bs in front of me.
you got a fucked up car and you hate the car cuz it made u feel stupid, well, you are stupid, cuz you didn't even know the car had a problem! instead, you just sit around whining like a little school girl.
Worst is you sold it and bought a "OMG SPORTS CAR waanabe 30 mpg YEEAaa VtEc jusT kiCKeD in y0!"
we get it man, we really did.

Guess I should chime in on this...
I own both an RX-8 and a Civic Si and I think I should point this out...
Now, I have a 2000 Si (BY FARRR THE BEST SI EVER SOLD IN AMERICA...AND THE FASTEST SI STOCK FOR STOCK) and I bought it brand new in May of 2000 off the showroom floor. Ok, so were comparing gas mileage here....dont know why since this is a "Sports Car" forum so who cares!? An RX-8 is a sports car.
Both the Si and RX8 are higher compression cars that simply loved to be revved. BUT......here's the point Im trying to make....
Did you know that if you drive your Si to redline several times a day, (like its built to be driven....as most enthusiastic RX8 owners drive as well) the gas mileage is only slightly better than the RX8!?? Hmmm......you do know what VTEC is right? Freakin VTEC sucks down gas like a V-8...and Ive got 12 years experience to back that up. Now if you wanna drive it like the economy car it is....it will get upwards of 30-32 mpg possibly. Good for you....economy cars are supposed to be "economy" cars...get it?
Now, I still have a lot of love for the original "American" and JDM VTEC motors but these new American Civics...anything above a 2000 model....they are simply little ugly, slow, economy cars with no personality. They also have enough wheel hop to loosen every bolt and screw in your interior. Oh, and they handle like crap!
RX8 = Sports Car
Civic = Economy Car
Now, go boast about your gas mileage in a Prius Forum. No one cares
