ALL Rotaries to be Banned in South Australia if under 25
http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/s...006301,00.html
My State Government is to ban ALL High Performance Cars on Provisional drivers aged under 25 years...
Included are Rotaries with a capacity over 1146cc, which is ALL of them except the 10A (908CC from memory).
Here you can get a license at 16, you do a learners "L" first, then on a "P" Plate for 12 months with restrictions....but now this...
ALL in the name of "Road Safety"...
Personally, I really do not know what to think, there are a lot of "young" RX-2,3,4,7 owners here with Ported Rotaries...

wow, that's pretty lame.
Here in the States and more specifially we have rules for younger drivers where they can't have teenager passengers or can not be out after a certain hour or can't talk on the phone while in the car.
I don't agree with singling out these youngsters, they're not the only terrible drivers on the road.

i actually like the idea.... I wish they would do that in the USA.
Kids need to learn to drive first and most of the time, giving them a performance car just equals disaster because they just aren't mature enough to understand.
all kids should have to own a econo-box with 140hp or less and not be able to touch the car from stock till they are somewhere between 18 and 21. It will also make them appreciate the vehicle more. They should be happy they have a car at 16.

As far as I know it is not retrospective...I don't think it can be..
The detail of this 'New' Legislation is VERY vauge...
Like if you come off your "P" provisionals and under 25 can you drive/own say an RX-8?
WE have an election in March next year and this State Government (Left Wing) is on the nose, they are trying to look as if they are doing 'things'..
Yes, Jedi we also have similar Passenger and in some States a time curfew.
If ANYONE gets caught here on the phone (Cell) while driving, it is a $332.00 fine and 2 demerit point loss.

Here in Indiana just passed new regs for 16 years old when they get their license get 1 ticket lose license till your 18.
My son is 16 drives slower then his grandmother he wants to make sure he keeps his license.

Let's be honest. Our cars are far from powerful. People under 25 can get much higher powered cars. Just because its a rotary means nothing. Lame.

I think it's a good idea for new drivers. I also think an HPDE course should be required for everyone.

And that was a quick test on L Plates, then a drive with a Cop, I think it took me 10 days after my 16th Birthday.
Now with L and P's..at 16 yo.
L's you have on for as long as it takes to Pass 7 Hours (I think) with a Private Qualified Driving Instructor at your expense..it usually cost about a $1000 to get your Book Stamped, then you go on P's, which I think is a Year, with Speed and Passenger restrictions, I think you have only a total of 2 demerit points to lose.
A normal License you have 12 Demerit Points over 3 years, once gone you Automatically lose your license for 3 months and then get all the 12 points back, or you can apply for 1 point to keep License, but if you lose that point in a year, no more chances, you are then disqualified for a year, or is it 6 months...something like that..

Instead of banning people from specific cars, there should be requirement that you should have to drive STICK/RWD for 3-years before graduating on to a stick-based sports car having more than 200hp
The government should also be required to issue everyone a miata when they turn 16

As usual they make the laws for the few dumbs that do weird things when young.
Here you can drive when you're 18, some restrictions for 3 years and you lose the double of your demerit points during that time.
There's also a weird power\weight ratio during that time to respect, nobody does because every single family would have to buy a car in order to respect it. It's like 60hp\tonne so just a few cars apply.
They also wanted to introduce a restriction for drivers under 25yo because every saturday night is a slaughter and often you hear of accidents occurred to guys with 10 days of driving license driving their dad's maserati drunk with friends.
They should enhance darwinism, not restrict our chances to drive cars.

I kinda like the idea.
it sounds harsh to the youngsters and yeah I know they're not the only "blind mother f**kers* on the road and not all under 25 drivers are "2f2f" wannabes.
but it helps to let them know that "you're still young and you still have a lot to learn"
I just wish they have some **** like this in NYC ... T_T maybe not 25, maybe 21 and under ?

I do like the idea of this and young people shouldn't drive sports cars. I do not like the idea of the 25 year old age limit. You can get your license when you are sixteen, but need an additional 9 years of driving experience before you are allowed to own a sports car. 9 years is way too excessive. I'm with NYCGPS and think that 21 would be a more proper age.

There are some people on the road even more dangerous than street racers/youngs.
Those girls can leave their hands off the steering wheels and do their make ups on the freeway.
The craziest thing I've ever seen is I saw a girl on freeway was straighting up her hair !!! with a little hair machine.( Hands off the steering wheels and eyes were looking at mirrors....)
