For anyone who wants to know about the cobra, it's a 95 with a cai, borla exhaust, stage 3 clutch, and oh, not to mention a 5.0 liter engine. He beats me in the 1\8 mile by I think it was 2 seconds, but if it was 1\4 or 1\2 mile, even he admits that my car would overtake him, which I have done.

Look - it's possible he could beat a 240hp Mustang in his 215hp RX8 - But what REALLY makes things look Stupid is if he was behind by TWO SECONDS at the 8th, and ends up catching him and beating him in the 1/4. Just doesn't add up.

 

First I don't know much about cars but I do know how to search. What I found is that the 1995 Cobra came with a 5.0, 240 HP, 285 TQ, and weighed in at about 3,052 lbs. Car & Driver got the 1995 Cobra to 1/4 in 14.2 sec. and a 0-60 of 5.5. This compared to a 238 HP, 159 TQ RX-8 weighing in at 3,000 lbs. It is plausible that you could beat him especially if he can't drive for **** or his Cobra has lost power due to it being almost 12 years old. On paper the RX-8 won't stand a chance, just compare the C&R #'s for both cars. In reality though if the Cobra has lost power over the years then it may be true that you can take him.

 

Except independent engine dynos of the rx8 show about 20hp less than rating...remember that

AND the cobra isn't stock....AND those engines are near bullet-proof. Do you think a low-torque car like the rx8 could make up a TWO SECOND margin in the 1/8th mile?

No, I don't think so either. More then likely this kid is talking out of his #$@. But for the sake of argument if the Cobra engine is shot to hell, this may explain his claim. I had a 1995 Z28, when I first got the car (1998) it ran like a bat out of hell. I finally sold it in 2005 in order to get the 8. By the time I sold I could definitely tell it was hurting, it had 150K.

 

I'll grant the following:

Remove one spark plug wire from the Mustang and the outcome of the race WOULD be plausible, except for over-coming a TWO second deficit at the 1/8th mile mark.
