Automobile Mag's 8 had lots of problems.

Check out the latest long term test article on the RX-8 but it ain't pretty. Automobile basically says while a fun car to drive they would look elsewhere if they were buying due to all the many problems and the annoyances(like adding oil) that their car had.

Meanwhile--Road & Track, Car and Driver, and Autoweek had no complaints besides the minor mpg gripe. IMO Automobile sucks anyway--its my least favorite auto mag.

LMAO

Not only that, I remember reading a Car & Driver ( I think ) and they were talking about how important break-in procedures were on some of the newer import sports cars such as the Evo and RX8. They went on to say how they 'need to be babied' for 1,000 miles so they won't burn up oil as much later on in their lives...

Maybe the Automobile guys should have taken it a bit easy on the poor RX8 when they drove it off the lot?! Retards...

Only 2 problems: Flooding & placement / accesibility to check & add oil. No biggy...for me at least!

there's a whole section of this forum dedicated to "issues and problems." it wouldn't be necessary if the only problem was the need to add oil. like it or not, many rx8's have had big problems. not entirely unexpected, but certainly annoying.

jerryf, I just read through many of your posts...I live in Phx and have an 8 ordered. I am concerned over the problems at high temperature. What year is your 8? Is your dealer helpful? If there is an issue at 100+ degrees I may need to reconsider.

Why does everyone blame the "break-in process" for issues. I know I will get crap for this but I say bull****. I work in a shop and have been dealing with cars for 14 years. I have even run a performance shop. The best running motors are the ones ridden hard from the very beginning. The cars that were "babied" seem to be the ones with all the issues. The ones drivien hard after properly warming up seem to have less issues. I don't know about RX-8s But it was sure true about the 7's.

Issues

I haven't had a problem with my oil...

Of course I haven't really ran it hard either.

The long-term test cars...I'm sure...were ragged out.

When I bought my Yamaha R6 a number of years ago the mechanic at the dealer said the same thing about break in periods. regardless of what Yamaha says about break in for the first five hundred miles....go out and ride it like you are going to for the life of the bike and do not baby it. Well after having it for about four years not one problem other then a dead battery.

uh, almost ALL car forums have those- it certainly wasn't created because the 8 has any more issues or problems than any other vehicle.
