I know this is off topic but you totally stole my avatar, I have had it first..........

Apparently you've never read other car forums then? Why so negative? The 8 has had no more problems than any other new vehicle. Stupid issues, like the flooding, gas mileage, and oil consumption (which isn't even a problem) have been blow so far out of proportion that people keep assuming they ARE major issues. And just because you've had a bad time with the car doesn't mean everyone else has, or will. I know several people who are fighting with Nissan over 350Z issues(as in, taking them to court)- and if you go the any of the Z boards, they'll bitch and complain (in the problems forum, no less) that it's the worse car in existance. Doesn't mean it is, though.

One board I've noticed where there is relatively less complaints overall is the S2K board.

Yep, I would agree there.

The ones drivien hard after properly warming up seem to have less issues. I don't know about RX-8s But it was sure true about the 7's.
I have to confess that I did not go easy on my 8. I dd not read the owners manual until I got home and I drove it as fast as I could from the second I left the dealership. I can't play the radio too loud or I will forget to shift at 9000 rpms. I think I may have gone to 10000 once. I love the feel of chirping the tires out of 1st and the rush of shifting from 2nd to third after the buzzer sounds. I drive the car like this every chance I get. My manual said and I quote "There is no break in period". Just don't hold the engine at hight rpms for an extended time. I hear the beep and I shift. The car now has about 2000 miles and I have not had any problems. I did have a broken catalytic converter, but I think it came that way. My oil consumption seems to be normal or even below normal from what I have read on some posts, I never flood and I live so close to work that the car rarely moves off the "C". I do not seem to be lacking any of the power that a lot of people complain about either. I have never experienced a lack of power or a drop off in the rate of acceleration.
It feels like the car wants to be driven hard. The shifts are smoother at hight rpms. The more I drive it hard the easier it is to drive. It's almost as if the car loosens up and stretches it's legs a bit. Maybe I will pay a price later on, but so far so good.

You state this as if it is absolute fact. J.D. Power and Associates gives the RX8 the lowest overall rating in both "mechanical quality" and "overall quality." This indicates that in fact the RX8 has had more problems than many other vehicles.

This car is quite different than any other car on the market, so some problems are expected. And I would certainly agree that oil consumption issues are blown out of proportion. I'm not so sure I'd include flooding in there, however. If the car has to go into the dealer on a hook, it is a MAJOR issue, period.

I am not here on this board slamming the RX8, I am just relaying my experience with it. This particular thread is about problems. There are many great aspects of this car. I still own one. I will continue to do so.

I've compared a lot of cars to the RX-8, and though I still plan to get one, I haven't seen any new model that didn't have problems. At least this car doesn't seem to disconnect the tranny for a moment in your driveway and suddenly lunge through your garage door like the Magnum, or have the massive electrical problems of the Touareg.

This is exactly what my dealer told me. This card needs to be driven throughout the rpm range. Shifting at 3000 rpms and cruising around at 3000 rpms will save gase mileage somewhat but doesn't exercise the engine. I was told to keep my rpms around 4000 and that is the sweet spot for instant power response. It tooke me a month to get out of the "piston thinking" in that I should keep my cruising rpms around 2500 rpms or so.

JD Power and Associates also gave the Hummer low ratings because people were complaining about low gas mileage. DUH. Honestly, their ratings mean very little- which has been discussed pretty widely in the automotive community in the past few years.

And strangely enough, Consumer Reports (which some people hate as much as JD power, but at least CR actually tests their cars instead of relying on surveys that may or may not contain people whining over subjective stuff like leather quality and consuming extra oil) has given it good marks in everything. It just hasn't been around long enough for them to recommend it as a best buy yet.
