I think if they really want a rotary car to challenge the 350Z, STI , EVO, and even corvette again, like the FD, they should just build the car in a more lightweight package! The car is light enough as is, but if they build (lets say, an RX-9) make the package smaller, and remove some creature comforts, use lighter weight materials, and try and get it somewhere around the 2500lb mark, or lower. (Miata range). That way even with the same powerplant as the current renesis, the car will be faster, and handle better.

If Mazda comes out with a 270-300 HP rotary, at least the same weight or lighter than the RX8, I will stronger consider playing. If they came out with a RX7, 340-370 HP weighing in at 2780-2920, I am sold!!!

Oh, and it would have to look similar to the 8 as I LOVE its design. The look alone of that car, I may just decide to keep it over any new rotary... Maybe an engine swap could be in order with the new engine??

well I can't wait until 2010 for a new car - it seems that the tug of war for my money is going to be betweeen BMW's new M3 and Nissan's GT-R.
seems the BMW is going to hit first, but I dont think im going to buy until I can drive both of them side by side (relatively speaking)

As long as we're talking miracles- 270hp, increase of mpg, and the same weight would be perfect for the RX8. As stated in their "Sustainable Zoom Zoom", they're working more on ideas for less weight, not heavy muscle.

A 2780lb 370HP RX-7 is almost supercar performance, it'll kill the GTR and 420hp M3. It wont happen!, unless mazda has a huge chunk of money lying around to make a super halo car.

agree, but 2750lbs and 300hp would be more than enough

I am very well aware of that. And, so.... Put the turbo 4 in the Kabura for the lower end sports car and make a new RX7 with a 320 HP rotary to make it a halo car... You never know!! Wonder why Mazda has taken so much interest in the Rolex Series?? Helping out the Speedsource boys some; maybe investment for the future in a high power Rotary.....maybe.....?

I think future development for the automobile industry will probably be made in the field of materials science. Lighter, stronger, and more resilient stuff for motor components, chassis, and panels. Lightweight and plush interior materials with superb sound-damping qualities, etc.
All this reduction of weight without sacrificing benefits and creature comforts can reduce emissions by allowing considerably smaller motors to be used.

but then again i will hopefully be able to fly by the Z-06's when i get the car back, with more hp (probably similar torque) and nearly the same weight, and i am going to have much torquier gearing than the vette

Hehe, keep on dreaming...
With 390HP on the RX-8 it is still 2 seconds slower then a regular Corvette from 0 to 100mph.

But I do like where you're going- Kabura for 18-22K, keep the RX-8 for 24-30K, and then an RX-7 for 30+K. That would be awesome.

Go Texas Longhorns!
Better Idea:
I would like a car that weighs 2500lb with an all aluminum DISI renesis NA engine.
You don't need 350+hp when your weight is 1100lb lighter than an M3 or GTR
