"Car" 6 month Long term test review

Nice two page artice in CAR magazine about the 8 along with some owner reviews. Largely positive and say he looks forward to driving another 6 month as long as CAR magazine is paying for the gas. Also used 6 quarts of oil in six month!

Tis good to see mazda addressing issues like flooding too.

I am going to be close to 3 in 3. thats what you get for driving almost 8000 miles in under 3 months.

I've got 18,500 in about 8 months and I haven't had to use a full quart yet.

I still have low miles, but I'm putting in a quart almost every 1,000 miles.

Well it all depends on driving style. I would imagine that CAR magazine writers drive their test cars really hard. Lots of high RPM usage = lots of oil consumption. The OMP meters oil based on engine speed.

In my RX-7, the mixture is around 200:1 at WOT, that's a quart of oil for four tanks of gas!

I have over 23,000 miles on my RX-8, and I LOVE to rev the engine, and I only add 1 quart between oil changes. It may need more when its time to change the oil but why waste oil, huh?

I have 9,300 miles on mine and used about 1/2 quart in the last 1,000 - which were mainly on the highway. Around town and with "fun" driving it has been closer to a quart per 1,000. I had the M flash done before my last trip and my milage went from 14 city/18 hwy to 17 city/ 22 hwy - big improvement and the engine seems to run smoother and pull better at low rpms.

Also had the A/C "Amplifier" installed per dealer notice and that greatly improved my comfort in hot weather!

Hey IGOZMZM - Mine is a Titanium Grey GT and I traded in a 2002 Classic Red Miata! No regrets - best car I have ever driven, let alone owned. The most bang for the buck you can get.
