Agreed.

But the best of FWD setup will never surpass the best of RWD setup.

Why? Physics.

If they can come up with a complete rear wheel steering system that works though, then watch out! hehe

I'm an 8 owner myself and I love my car - having said that? I'm surprised to see that the JDM spec Civic Type R (FD2R) did not make it to this test.

Much as I hate to say it? In its stock guise, all other things being equal, it can and will beat the 8 and probably every other car on that list as well.

As a local club, we track pretty often at Sepang International F1 circuit and the fully NA modded 8's are only able to lap in the 2min40s range at best.

To clarify, a few of them are my clients as well and will typically have the following setups or equivalent:

Cusco Front and Rear Struts
Whiteline Front and Rear adjustable Sway Bars
Autoexe 8 point Underbrace
Cusco Zero2E suspension
Racing Beat REVI + Ram Air Duct
RB Header
Straight thru mid pipe
RE-Amemiya Super Dolphin Exhaust
Knightsports 4.777 Final Drive
ACT Lightened Flywheel
ACT Super Single Clutch
RP Shortshifter
AP or KS/RE/Odula reflash
Toyo R888 Semi-Slicks

The CTR's STOCK (with semi-slick tires like the Toyo R888) are able to lap 2min35s.

Just for the record? I bloody hate Hondas - but gotta respect what they are capable of doing on the track.

Yet there is no THE BEST FWD or THE BEST RWD.

^ AS BEEN SAID TOO MANY TIMES BEFORE...

This is a discussion of "Best Bandling" car.

"Best Lap Times" or "Best Drivetrain Layout" are NOT part of the discussion!

Put your car brand/speed/layout/power blinders on and think only one thing...

Handling!

When you're talking about comparing the BEST handling cars for under $100,000, yes, it does.

Edmunds just had a 3rd editor pan the GTIs handling. I took one out and wasn't that impressed. If just handling is considered I think the Mini--especially John Cooper Works!-- would have made a better choice if they had to include a front-driver.
