Edmunds long term review

Thanks for the link.
In this review they did not whine about having to check and add motor oil as they did in their last review where they had
"Problems: Excessive oil consumption"
compared to this time's
"Problems: None".
I wonder if the M-flash made the difference with their prior excess oil consumption complaint?

VW coulda had it...
They probably decided to drop the oil consumption complaint after receiving too many letters from us as to why the engine consumes oil. Or, maybe the oil consumption decreased, as it did on my car and other RX8s?
BTW: the "joyride" situation seems to have been coming up a lot lately.

M-flash probably won't decrease oil consumption.
One of the things adressed in the MSP04 is additional oil injection. The "loss of power" issue is occasionally caused by lack of compression sealing due to insufficient oil injection.
If anything, the M-flash should increase oil consumption.

I already wrote the editors (as I did about their oil consumption listed as a 'problem') regarding their comments about mediocre fuel mileage.
Edmunds says ""Of course, not helping the fuel economy cause is the fun of keeping the engine on the boil. Road Test Editor John DiPietro clarified: "I'm like the kid who's always caught with his hand in the cookie jar; when conditions allow, I've got my foot on the throttle, just to feel the surge and hear the jet enginelike sound."
According to Edmunds their average MPG over the life of the vehicle for the RX-8 is
17.6 mpg with a high of 19.7.
Their long term test of the G35C has them saying "our inability to keep our foot out of the engine's power has resulted in some discouraging mileage figures. Guess we'll try to do better next time."
The problem is, the average fuel mileage on the G35C is 15.6 with a best of 16.8.
I think most will agree 15.6 is more mediocre than discouraging. They claim THEY will try to do better next time on the G35C, but apparently are not willing to accept responsibility for the RX-8 fuel economy.

I thought the article was suppose to be about the 8. 3 paragraphs wasted on a crappy service department and 4 paragraphs on the (optional) nav system. Not to mention whining about the display and sunroof's tilt functionality.
If all they can complain about are these nit picky things, IMHO the 8 did a damn fine job.

I agree wholeheartedly!
You know they're clutching at straws when they start nit picking at irrelevant, somewhat non-related topics.

How can a long term review be primarily based on one bad service dept.
Maybe they took it to Manhattan Mazda?

Yes it can, it is also faster than the RX-8 . The Z28 blends in with the hundreds of thousands of other Fbody cars, the rear tires jump all over the place on less than perfect road surfaces, the interior is by playschool, the body flexes like a wet noodle, some of the body seams are so big you can put your fingers in the gaps, the steering wheel looks like it came off an old mans car, but it gets great Fuel Economy especially considering the HP.

Overall I think it is pretty obvious that they really like the car, and they are trying hard to come up with something that they can "criticize".
The first paragraph gives the 8 a lot of praise.
