Every RX8 Fan Should Find and Buy This Book
Title: RX-8: World's First 4-door, 4-seat Sports Car
Author: Jack Y. Yamaguchi
Edited By: John Dinkel
ISBN: 4-947659-02-5 P5000E
Other Info: Published in Japan in 2003, retail cost 5,000 yen
Comments: I ordered this book last week and it arrived yesterday. It's a hard cover with 191 pages (8.7" x 11.7", high gloss, thick paperstock) filled with photos, technical specs and diagrams, concept drawings, driving impressions, and a detailed history of development of the RENESIS and the RX-8. Some of it is marketing fluff, but there's a lot of interesting reading and it was well worth the almost $50 I paid.
It's hard to find in the USA; its ISBN is not listed in any of the major bookstores' databases. I grabbed a copy at the www.barnesandnoble.com used section. There was another copy there... click the "Used and Out of Print" tab and search for "Mazda RX-8" in the title field.

I just noticed that this is the same book that people who pre-orded the RX-8 received and there are plenty of old posts on it. Oh well... I guess this thread is only for us recent RX-8 buyers.

I wanted one so bad, they had 4-5 to give away at rotary revolution. I asked the guy if I could buy one and he said somewhere but he didn't know and then he said they were just promos to give away. I was thinking "so can I just take one?" but I felt bad just walking away with one when everyone wanted it but it ended up thats what everyone did. Luckily my friend stole one and I got to read all of it on the trip back from Indy. Well worth $50 imo. So much incredible information that you can't find anywhere else. Great pictures too.

Incredible information from Mazda
I got the Yamaguchi book free because I pre-ordered. There's lots of good stuff in there, but there are some things that turned out to be -- as a previous post put it -- incredible. And not in a good sense.
I'm talking about the detailed engineering explanations of the reasons that the Renesis left any previous Mazda rotary far behind on gas economy. Too bad the engines they delivered didn't match the glowing promises.
Still glad to have the book, so I can read about the parts that came out right, and dream of what should have been.

Someone here tried sell me one used for about $35.00. Lame. What I really want is Rotary Engine by Kenichi Yamamoto. I'm sure there are some professors at school that can pull some strings...

I got mine off eBay several months back... I think it was around $30. It's an excellent book- not only for the RX8 content, but to understand Mazda's rotary development in general.
