I'm not sure that the R32 was a good comparo car for the 8. It is more suited to a comparison to the WRX of Evo due to is 4 wheel drive and suped up hot hatch beginings.

Uhm, let me think: More fun to drive down a demanding road ... almost as quick ... quieter --- smoother ... almost flat torque curve ...
And who on earth would want to be seen in anything as ugly as a golf?!?!

thanks Oilman for the scans. over here in the States, i am always looking for the new Evo magazines. i was wondering when this comparo was going to be done, and how it would turn out.
i was expecting the R32 to come out on top due to the huge power it has. glad to see that i was wrong.

Even though my screen name would indicate otherwise, I'd take the Rx-8 over the R32.
However, that doesn't stop me from liking naturally aspirated v6's with good HP/Torque numbers as well as 4WD.
Now, if only Mazda could make the RX-8 4WD with 200lb.-ft torque...
Oh well, No such thing as the perfect car.

I hope you guys like your RX-8's as much as I do mine. I've never driven a car where you just become part of the vehicle. It' magical, and we've only had ours 4 days!
