My 8 is new to me so I am not doing anything....I am most impressed to see the 8 still alive and well and being refined however they see fit. Generate the interest again then blow our minds with the 9!!!!

A lot of the things I've noticed have already been mentioned but my two cents is I like the new rear bumper line a lot better, makes the car look cleaner and less bulky. I agree the front looks leaner as well, I think its due to a less abrupt front end. The car appears longer than the current one with the new front. I personally still prefer the original MS front end over the new one but I have a feeling I'll be in the minority there. I also prefer the current headlights and tails over the new as they are unique and have sharper lines to them. The duo round tails looks too main stay to me. I like the wheels suprising too.
Overall its a very well done refresh but I'm still happier with the overall look of my RX, part of the reason I bought mine was for the unique rotory accents throughout the car and its lost a lot of that uniqueness to me. The new RX definetly feels more mainstay while the previous was more botique car.

I honestly think IMO Mazda is going to reserve the good stuff for the RX-9, but will see...

Amazing, amazing, amazing. This was more than what I expected. I was expecting very minor changes to the exterior and a few touch ups to the interior ala "minor change", but this is what they would call a "major-minor" in Japan.
If current components no longer fit in the older model, than the changes are extensive. Likewise, the entire interior dash has been overhauled. Now I know why production line had to be stopped and restarted.
Interestingly, we have now seen the Type RS (due for sale, but dont know when) and the Mazdaspeed CONCEPT---god knows if it will ever be on sale. But no one seems to have an idea of what the base model would look like. After all, they are planning on selling the base model pretty soon, it would be good if they just released some pictures and technical info. I've had a look at the Mazda Japan Rx8 webpage and it's still the same old car that can no longer be ordered!! More info please, Mazda!!

The rear bumper, tailights and spolier are a definite improvement, the new front has some good and bad. That black plastic 'mustache' looks like crap. The headlight lenses are round, but now the driving lights are rectangle with a chrome strip beneath them - that really looks like crap. It looks like the front was styled by a committee. The new side vents with the side marker lights look like crap and the new steering wheel looks like (do I have to print it?) I am not fond of the wheels either.
It is clear Mazda realized better cooling was needed and enlarged the openings for the oil cooolers and radiator, but I think they could have styled it better.
It looks like they made the dipstick easier to get at, but you still have to remove the engine cover to add oil!

so, does anyone think the 'current' ms body kit will be cheaper??!!!
after all this posting, i went down, turned on my lights, and looked at the tails. i *thought* i liked the new ones better, but ours are definitely better. led's are nice, but they are (were) so unique to our car! and the red lights that sit in the silver cross strakes really make the current tails look good. i do like the black housing of the new ones, but not the dual circle shape.

Shame that a few of the posters think the new refaced Rx-8 looks horrible... if the the refaced RX-8 looks horrible, then what does the there next gen Z look like?

I love the new wheel. I was never so huge on the original RX-8 wheel. I liked my 3-spoke Protege wheel much better, it was slimmer.

dont have time to read the whole thread....
but IMO, the car doesnt need a face lift....it needs a performance lift...
i'll never understand why the 3 and 6 are available FI'd...
all 8s should come from the factory with a FI'd application..

I'm dealing with it by switching to a differnt brand come the end of my lease in January.
13 years of rotary transportation... it was good while it lasted.
