Facelifted RX8 revealed!!!!

i don't know anything about gearing, and what 4.77 means ... but according to what you're saying, they could put a 4.77 or whatever in, giving better acceleration, but they could STILL put in a "longer" 6th gear? best of both worlds, better acc in 1-5, but still have 6th for pure highway/fuel economy?

once my 8 is not my daily driver, i'd be happy to lose a few mpg's for a little more acceleration in all gears...

I don't buy Kool-Aid
With those wheels/tires and the 4.44 gearing:
Speed at 3500 RPM 15.7 26.0 35.9 49.7 59.0 70.0
With those wheels/tires and the 4.777 gearing:
Speed at 3500 RPM 14.6 24.2 33.4 46.2 54.9 65.1
Gear ratio required for 6th gear to have the same speed at 3500 RPM: .784 (vs .843 in the current tranny)
So, to be taller with that final drive, you'd have to be lower than .784.

I'm guessing someone will have a Group Buy on these when they become available. I can see a lot of people wanting to pick up the seats.

real question is will we be able to buy them fitted for the rx8 directly through recaro -- so there's no fitment issue, BUT we could pick a customized color scheme.....hmmm

R3 Doesn't make sense! The should have just stuck with RS
I know the press release said its named the R3 in the tradition of the 3rd gen RX-7 R1 and R2 models. BUT, Mazda did state that the RX-8 is NOT a replacement for the RX-7.
So R3 doesn't make sense. It's like naming a movie sequel #3, but the first 2 movies are from a different series and era.

Go Texas Longhorns!
Wow, that has to be the most aggressive rear end I've ever heard of in a production car. can anyone think of one equal too or lower than 4.77?
I've heard rumors the tranny is also all new, so there is the potential for different gear ratios along with the diff changes. I can't really believe they wouldn't change the 5th and 6th gears with a 4.77, that would be crazy otherwise.
Guess we will see, that would add some extra zip though.
