here's somethinf to think about...this is obviously the version with all the appearance add ons and do-dads......what do you think the base model will look like.....cause it is obvious it won't have fogs, wont have sideskirts...most likley won't have that lower black lip on the front bumper....no wing, etc.

That's in kilometers. I drive in kilometers to mess with people. They're like, "Oh my god it doesn't feel like we're going 120!" Also fools dealerships. It's just something I do to see if people pay attention or not.

its the oil filler neck and cap i think that i was noticing. that would have to do with the new oil metering system. also the abs/brake force distribution block looks different.
something is different on the passenger side dash- maybe its rolled under a little more? but also that little disc where the "airbag is off " light goes is missing in these pics

This is the new RX-8 Type RS (Reference Exhibit) for Tokyo Auto Salon.
But yep it is the new 8, certainly looks more Japanese...Unfortunately..
Like the tail lights the rest will have to grow on me...I hope it is better in the flesh.
Fog light are too high, the grille is typical new Mazda look like the MS3 or new Mazda 6, the new RX-8 IMO has lost that individuality and is more corporate.

it's a refreshing design but they've gone mainstream... has something to do with the somewhat sedan looks. it doesn't go with the rx-8's idea of going against the flow with the rotary engine and rwd design etc.
imho, interior sucks, front looks too busy, not feeling the foglight change, fender vents are thumbs down. only good changes i can say are the rear, side skirt and engine bay changes. for the love of god.. why did they lose all the rotary emblems from the current model?
PS
too much chrome on the front bumper... and plastic

Also, do you think the recessed emblem in the front is just a design choice, or a way to try to get people to not go to the emblemless smooth look on their cars?

The specs of the suspension and engine won't come out until tomorrow or not until the Detroit auto show. There might be a ECU re tune that provides more power or something un scene like that. The racing beat tune does provide a little more juice in the top end and allows it to rev to 9500. That could be the reason for the little red bars on the tach. But .... i doubt it

here is something else to think about:
1) the new front bumper doesnt look transferrable so:
2) there might be a new mazdaspeed version for the new facelift that will work with the new headlights.... this might also mean that many bodykit companies are screwed over and will have to make another one....hahahaha
its amazing how fast this thread is growing...lol
