And Dave Coleman can predict the future. I remember another rotary "Technobable" article back in 2001 or 2002 where he talked about V-8 and 20B swaps in FD's, and said he would didn't like either because they destroyed the handling and natural steering of the FD, but instead wanted a 1.6L 2-rotor Wankel engine. Freaky stuff, I'll try to find the article.

^^still, like the article says...turbocharging is what takes the cake for rotary engines. as well as lower exhaust noise. and still low rpm torque.
what i really like to see is mazda actually address that issue as of the horsepower war thats happening right now. not as to keep its rotary owners faithful... but to launch an assault at the old time track arch enemy, the GTR!
we need displacement and forced induction to better compete with our rivals. and may mazda have the stroke of genious and come with the turbocharged 16x!

Interesting, I didn't realize that the RX-01 would have been that expensive.
I thought the whole point of that car was that the expensive FD wasn't selling well, so Mazda wanted to make a cheaper car that would sell better to keep the rotary alive.
