Thumbs up I meet a Mazdaspeed employee!

I went for a ride with my friend in his new 08 Mazda 3 5door and when we pulled into the gas station where on the other side of the fuel pump was a brand new mazda 5 without plates. So i'm standing in the middle of two brand new Mazdas & figured I'll kill some time talking to this guy about how he likes his Mazda 5.
As it turns out he works for Mazdaspeed in Irvine. I tried to gleam from him anything I could. But he said he was unable to speak about internal projects. When I asked about a future RX-7, he said there would not be another. (So I'd like to think that if there is a future Rotary powered sports car, it may be known by a new RX-#) I asked if there was a 1.6 liter Rotary in the works and he confirmed there is such an engine and it is called the 16c.
Also if you autocross your Mazda twice, you are eligible to purchase parts from the dealer at dealer cost. He said something about you have to register online with Mazda.

basically you can go to mazdaspeedmotorsports.com and you register with this site to join the Mazda Support Team Program.

you get a 10% discount off of mazdaspeed products.

you can also just order oem replacement stuff, or 'collision repair' products from there.

I flipped out when I saw an ad for this (Grassroots Motorsports magazine) but I basically have the mods I would have purchased from Mazdaspeed anyways. I'm still considering the struts and the lsd, but that won't be for a while.

16c seems very exciting if true.

Sorry, but getting information from some unknown guy at the gas station doesn't go too far with me.

Well, the fact that he quoted 16c interests me. It shows atleast a basic familiarity with rotor nomanclature, which is not really a common knowledge/random person at a gas pump knowing all about it sort of thing.

Mazda has had the autocross deal for at least a decade as far as I know. It used to be through Mazdacomp but I guess it's just Mazdaspeed now. You need to autocross or enter a "driving school" which is nothing more than a way to get your car on a roadcourse, at least twice in 1 year to be eligible for the discount. You need to send in your track results as proof along event with info they can look up to verify your actual participation so that you aren't sending in some made up form. They've done this for a long time.

I still doubt a 1.6L but you never know.

mazdacompetition used to be very secretive, not even a website about it, anyone who reads grassroots motorsports knows about mazdaspeed motorsports. all u gotta do is prove u race and they give u discounts on stuff.....and then when u go in for warranty probs on ur trans they say F you bc u got an intake...wtf

What you should of done was slap the sh*t out of him and demand to know why there is no Mazdaspeed RX-8.

I also would not be surprised that if you start talking to some of the Mazdaspeed personnel, that they do not really like rotary engines. They rather play with turbo and safe design "off the shelf" piston engines.

how about this - called into my local Mazda dealer recently to buy some parts . In talking with the parts guy he comes out with " they don't make the RX8 anymore"
which flooerd me coming from a Mazda staff member .
So this weekend I'm talking with the Mazda service manager for NZ who happens to be at the track where they are testing the new MS3 for this years production car series.
He tells me they are not even bringing RX8's into the country anymore .
Seems that anyone with 1/2 a brain is buying them straight out of Japan 2nd hand .
New in NZ : $65,000
near new ex japan : $35,000
You can see why ......

The new Mazdaspeed Development Manager (or whatever) needs to be put on trial for his sins and those of his predecessors for there being no Mazdaspeed RX-8.

If he fails to repent and request development of a Mazdaspeed RX-8 from Mazda rotary-hating top brass, than he should be publicly stoned immediately and forced to resign.

Well if you read GRM you have seen the Mazdaspeed ad that has ran for the last year with an RX-8 racing in it. That is our car, and the dealer has never turned down any of our warranty work. A lot of it is just how you talk to people.

I do know of one racer, not me, that did get a trans done under warranty just a few weeks ago.
