For the extremely lazy the 8 sold 699 in Febraury (w/ 1,407 last Feb.) and 1,335 this year so far (w/ 2,428 last year at this time). Man, that kinda sucks *****.

if you consider the month to month sales it was a large increase and world wide its doing pretty good, the only way it can get discontinued from the american market is if theres a large change in laws causing a large redesing and the beans counter decide its not economically intelligent to do so.

This year's sale will be a little less than last year's. The jump is probably due to the arrival of 2006s and spring.

Here's some stats for March for MNAO:
http://sev.prnewswire.com/auto/20060...3042006-1.html
That makes the sales for the RX-8 in North America (2005 sales in parenthesis):
January: 636 (1,021)
February: 699 (1,407)
March: 1,582 (2,489)
Overall sales are down 41% from last year at this time. I know the 8 is sold all over the world, but I'm really only interested in North American sales. They could sell a million overseas, but I don't doubt they'll pull the plug in NA if sales don't pick up here.

With them making money on SUVs and Mazda 6s and 3s -- the RX8 will stay around. Remember very rarely do sports cars make real money for car makers -- with the exception being the Mustang and possibly the Z. Also keep in mind the Z shares so many parts that it is more of a low risk project per se.
Well, regardless I have my 8 already so it really doesn't matter to me.

Why are people obsessed with notion that Mazda is going to pull the plug on the RX-8 in North America?
I mean, let's get real. As long as the 8 sells globally, it's not going anywhere.

In the US, the RX-8 has sold more cars in the first 3 months of '06 than the FD RX-7 did in its entire final year of '95. (Heck, just the month of March alone beat the FD's total). In '96 there was a major emissions regulation change and Mazda couldn't justify recertification for the '96 model year. End of story for the RX-7 in the US.
The RX-8's case is nothing like the RX-7's. The sky is not falling.

Anything over 1000/mnth is great.
Market this year is different than last year.
Can't always compare year to year sales. Need to step up a knotch and look at the bigger picture.

That wasn't Mazda that made sure it met emissions....that was Ford. You can say a lot of negative things about Ford cars.......but as far as emissions go, Ford is a world leader.

sales are not bad, the development of the next generation rotary engine is well on track and we will see a new rx car very soon and a redesing of the rx-8
as I said before the rx-8 open the door for oficial rotary development, something that was not done since the rx-01 in the 90'

I have to agree with Saturn on this. I don't think that Mazda will necessarily drop the RX8 for 2007.....but not making any changes at all from the 2006 version is highly probable with another dismal year of sales. I guess Mazda, the press, and us will all have to wait and see how the summer plays out.....cause we all know how the winter ends up with this car.
