Marine has RX-8 and Purple Heart STOLEN!
An East Texas marine is pleading for the public's help. Blake Weller, 20 returned from his first tour in Iraq two weeks ago. Last week, he bought a brand new car, and just three days later it was stolen in broad daylight. It's what was inside his car Weller says means the most.
For the past nine months Weller has served our country with his life. Two weeks ago he finished his first tour in Iraq, returning with five medals and a purple heart.
"There was a mortar attack, and it hit 10 feet behind me," said Weller. "It knocked me out for a minute and a half. He suffered a third grade concussion and shrapnel to the hand after that attack. His bravery earned him the purple heart, but now his medal's are gone.
"They mean pretty much everything," said Weller. "Everything that I have accomplished in the two and a half years I have been in." They were stolen along with his car he bought just last Tuesday, a fully loaded 2005 Mazda RX 8.
"Bought the car came home went to the mall," said Weller. Weller parked the car in one of the front spots at Broadway Square Mall in Tyler about 5:00 p.m. Friday. He went inside and when he came out ten minutes later the car was gone.
"It means something to me," said Weller. "That I actually came back, and the money I got from Iraq I wanted to put it in something. It is more of sentimental value." Sitting in the front seat just picked up from the dry cleaners was Weller's dress uniform, medals and all.
"It's just hard coming home and doing something that you really want and then have it taken away," said Weller. "I wish they would just return that. I don't care about anything else." A plea from an East Texas solider who has sacrificed his life for the safety of so many.
A report has been filed with Tyler Police. If you have any information on the whereabouts of Weller's car contact Tyler Police.

Damn... Some people deserve to be hurt... I hope they are stupid enough to try and part it out here or on ebay. We all should be on the lookout... Let's help a fellow '8 owner out.
On another note, is it really so hard to require journalists to learn English? Not to mention that no one has been hit by "shrapnel" since WWI...

Such a disrespectful act towards a marine who has served his country and risked his life. I can't believe that anyone would do that. This is extremely upsetting. I hope they find the guy(s) who did this.

For the Marine, dude that sucks... kinda makes you wish him and his unit "find" the perps first and make a "citizens arrest"...where they resisted, of course.

you'd think the dress uniform sitting on the front seat would make the thief think twice about stealing that specific car. That blows. At least this happenned in texas, a nice vigilante posse is probably already made.

That blows......big time. I hope they find the little ****!
BTW..............how did they steal it? Did he happen to leave the keys in it? If it was a fully loaded 05, then it had an alarm right? I know that doesn't mean it can't be stolen, but it would make it a little more difficult(esp. in daylight right in front of the mall). We need to know the color and all so we can watch for somebody selling stuff from around the Tyler area.

this is just a note.i think the car was towed by some fool who thought he was smart or something like that .a 8 is not a hard car to steal but it is sure nuff not easy.somebody has seen something to notice a car like that being taken with out the owner near by. just my 2 cents.

As much as I'd like to feel sorrow for this fellow marine....im guessing he left the keys in the car....
If he ran into the store for ten minutes...he obviously must of thought hey i'll leave the car here with keys since i'll be right back....Small town mentality got him there...I bet thats the reason why the news is making such a big deal about it...
here in Texas if you leave your keys in the car and its stolen its considered owner assisted theft....and alot of insurance companies won't pay up...
Have another friend who is a marine...that leaves his doors unlocked 24/7 for convenience and sometimes even his keys in the car through the night ((it isn't garaged))....
Also any marine who would proudly cherish a purple heart from hand shrapnel is no grunt in my book ....sounds like an officer....they get a scratch on the eye outside of combat in a warzone and purple hearts get thrown their way

My question is: Can this even happen, assuming time machines exist? Because if he goes back in time to steal the same machine before it was later stolen, they'd have two copies of the time machine, yet if they steal the earlier copy, then clearly they couldn't later steal it to go back in time to steal it earlier.
Now, assuming it's possible, since the timeline diverges here, would the original thief and time machine cease to exist, or would he continue to exist in what amounts to be a parallel universe? Would there be any way for him to ever meet his friend again who stole the earlier time machine? How about if they both went back in time by 50 years, to say, meet at their parent's prom.

I was just thinking, for ***** and giggles, if the guy bought a brand new 2005 RX-8, one possible way to do it is to have a time machine. Now imagine for a moment that he left the keys in the time machine too, and the thief and friend hopped into the time machine, and went back in time by exactly 60 seconds. His friend hops out of the stolen time machine, and steals the same time machine from 60 seconds earlier.
My question is: Can this even happen, assuming time machines exist? Because if he goes back in time to steal the same machine before it was later stolen, they'd have two copies of the time machine, yet if they steal the earlier copy, then clearly they couldn't later steal it to go back in time to steal it earlier.

I take it you don't know anyone in the military, or you just had a dumb moment.....Don't worry if it's the latter, we all have them, but damn.....34,000 injured since the start of the war, and I'm willing to put money on the fact that maybe one or two got hit with some form of shrapnel...........just my simple minded guess.

All of your answers can be found by watching Back to the future 1 2 and lets not forget 3...
They cover just about everyting you are asking... good luck in your investigations

the problem with back to the future is that there is only one 'real' timeline at any given time. They don't address if the timelines exist side by side, they pushed the main characters to whatever active one they went to. Additionally, I don't think they addressed paradoxes.
The Time Machine did, but they did it visually with a bubble that prevented him from performing an action that would negate his desire to build the machine in the first place (saving his wife).
You should check out Primer.

weak, totally weak, I say after they catch whoever did it, they send that person or persons to Iraq for 3 years as punishment, let them get shot at and blown up so they can understand how much crap homedude put up with only to have their sorry *** rob his stuff. good thing what comes around goes around, here's to hoping for swift and righteous justice.

OK...I dont really like to get into these discussions, and it is a little off topic, but I have 2 friends with purple hearts. They didn't get them for some superficial wound received outside combat, nor could they have. The PH is not given out lightly, and it is a very high award...I am not sure but somewhere around number 5-ish (Correct me if i am wrong). It is a very high profile award that is scrutinized very keenly by everyone involved in the process of giving it out. So i happen to take a little offense at someone just blindly saying he "...sounds like an officer....they get a scratch on the eye outside of combat in a warzone and purple hearts get thrown their way". May have happened back in the days of 'Nam, but not anymore. Also, i have personally received this so called non-existent shrapnel...if it isn't shrapnel what is it, and why do the doctors call it that? BTW< No i dont have a Purple Heart, as the shrapnel received was not in a combat zone, nor would I have even taken it in case it POSSIBLY was offered.
Also, on a side note, one of my 2 friends with a purple heart got his for "shrapnel to his hand"...he also has shrapnel in his eye, back, arm, left leg, and chest...it simply wasnt mentioned in his warrant...

Ah jeez, don't get so up in arms about this. Notice the quotes? I was pointing out that the word "shrapnel" has become misused over the years. This was a WWI-era weapon involving a charge that detonated above ground and spewed little steel ***** all over the battlefield. AFAIK it has not been used since. The only correct litterary reference to shrapnel that I am aware of is in Hemmingway's "The Sun also Rises" (again, written and set soon after WWI).
Shell fragments are not shrapnel. Are we free to call things whatever we want? In a technical discussion, I think not. Neither does Jeff Cooper. But he is in no way an expert in these matters, eh? Neither is a bullet the same thing as a cartridge, but who gives a flying $%&#? Considering we're on an automotive forum, I would think people would be more receptive to enforcing some sort of rigor in such things. It makes intelligent discussion easier. Just because everyone does it doesn't make it right.
Then again, the author of the original article can't even get his English grammar straight, so perhaps I set the bar too high.
< / rant >
Anyway, +1 to hoping that the "victim" finds these douchebags before the police do. Justice will be better served.
