It's great the Mazda got a 2nd in its first race, but the CBS coverage was atrocious!
The only mention of P2 and the Mazda for 9/10s of the race was that the new Mazda was the "loudest car on the track". For me as as a newcomer to the Mazda rotary revolution hoping to get some exciting covereage of this new entry, it was extremely disappointing. It's as if P2 didn't even exist.
We can only hope for better in the future.
Zoom, Zoom!

I think part of the reason for the poor coverage was the 20+ minutes they spent talking about Porsche.. Porsche pretty much stole the media attention by annoucing some new cars for next years racing..
But I agree it was pretty pathetic.. I'm used to NASCAR where they show each car at least "once" throughout the race.. but all I saw was the P1 and GT2 battles.. while fun to watch, it would have been nice to see some of the other cars and drivers.

I agree with all of what you said. Thats the way I felt too and just had too see if it was just me or did Mazda get snubbed. Well I'm happy for the team! They came in second ....First Time Out!!!

I was there. It was most definitely not the loudest car there. That would be a toss-up between the Corvettes and the Panoz. It was the most different sounding. I didn't have to keep an eye on the track at all. I always knew when the Mazda was coming.
You think that your rotaries have a bad idle. I saw the car getting final prep in the pit. Didn't have a chance to speak with anyone on the crew but it had no idle at all. It barely ran until it sounded like it was running about 6k.
Might have come in second in its class but it was first in flames!

Mazda actually didn't take advantage of the Marketing like the other manufacturers. Saleen, Maserati, Porsche, Corvette Racing, and Volvo had portable showrooms set up and were taking orders. the Saleen guys were staying in the same hotel I was at. Couldn't figure out what was going on when I pulled into the parking lot and there was an entire row of Saleens in every color.

it's no wonder they had horrible coverage, some is better than nothing though. I'm sorry I missed it but oh well, I'm not sure what's worse, cbs coverage of this or abc doing college football, in any case, maybe they should borrow some of the dudes from speed channel or something next time. Must have been awesome to actually attend the event, I hope to go to something like this someday, maybe indy 500 or .....
