Sure enough a couple of weeks or days later I'd go into the dealer (for the recall or tsb he didn't hear about), and speak with the same tech who would then say, "hey, where are you getting your information from, you seem to hear things before we do and you are usually right". So tell your dealer to shove that up their asses! Nanny Nanny Poo-Poo!

Please excuse if it is a nOOb foolish question, but can we get cats that are not compliant w/US regulations, and maybe avoid some of these issues?
If it's a combo of cat & oil weight - both a product of emissions standards - is there some way to circumvent both?
I know doing so would cause problems for those that need periodic inspections. Just curious if that is the only issue.

He is right there is NO recall. all this chat for the last two days was a huge APRIL FOOLS DAY prank . It is April right? Well technically he is right though. I do not work for mazda I work for a company that sales Mazda vehicles.

OK. Just got off with a service rep here in the valley that I trust to some extent.
They had a meeting with the regional on Friday to prep them for the recall.
There are over 1000 motors in the pool that are available to send out to dealers that are performing the recall, which should mitigate some of the downtime for a replacement.
The motors are labled as re-mans, but Mazda put several hundred new motors in the channel to get the flow started on that program, so some people will end up with new motors, even though they will be labled as re-mans. The new motors are dressed, the re-mans are not, so if you are trying to identify yours, just look for coils and the intake manifold. Re-mans won't have those.
There is already a backlog in some places and no demand in others. For instance - there is a dealer in Tucson that already has 18 motors to swap that came in blown over the last few weeks. Yet, this dealer has none.
The recall will be, as was stated before, "white glove". However, what that means might be confused to some extent. He expalined it as the dealers will be giving owners practically carte blanche just to keep the good will high (yeah, good luck on that). If you don't pass the vacuum test, you get a new motor almost universally. You would have to really show some serious negligence (no service record, for instance) to not get the recall. Even if you are out of warrantee, they will probably give you deference.
Mazda has pretty well resigned themselves to a loss on this, though getting the motors back before they "blow" will save them a chunk of cash in the long run since they will re-build them and send them back out.
YMMV.

As I have stated I was annoyed that he treated our site like its pure crap and shouldnt be trusted. Usualy when people like RotaryGod and Zoom44 speak up I listen that and recently Otherside and yourself say sumthing I take it to heart since youve admitted you work for Mazda when both of you could just keep quiet about your ties to them.
When this recall is released Rosenthal Mazda will post it on their site right so I can print it up? Again Thursday before 10am I'm going to get my visor replaced and find out whats up with this Headlight restoration kit and if crap is bad I am most likely gonna lose it. I'll be giving out this guys and his service managers email to a few of you

do you know what the engine replacement number is across the whole country?
or what the running total is now (I know they had the problems in Las Vegas last year)
just trying to get a feel for whether the "only 1% of cars will fail the test and need new engines" sounds reasonable

HPDEs are educational events, not auto competition and therefore cannot void your waranty (some insurance companies bundle them in the same category as the driver's safety courses teens and DUI's have to take.)
Please discuss.
Also, Is this thing finally official (I'm searching the thread, but haven't found it yet)

There is a lot of good knowledge and craniums-up on this forum (if you know how to see through the trolls and bullshitters) and some service departments would do good to read the info on this forum. Unfortunately they (the sleazy ones)are usually more interested in maximum profit (right now) for minimum effort/investment (at the possible expense of future profits from satisfied customers) The truly good dealerships know better, but the way the system works, it tends to reward mediocrity. Good dealerships, just like good mechanics are few and hard to find.

I saw it on a ouija board. Right along with teh winning lottery numbers.
Seriously, what the wires are saying is that oil leaks from the engine are killing cats.
o.O
CAT KILLERS!
Patently bogus, but so's the wires.

WOW! 400 replies in 32 hours! That's 12.5 posts per hour... Almost as good as my mpg!!!
Does any of this info coming down the chain change my opinion of the car? No. Of the dealerships, or Mazda? Maybe. Time'll tell...

Ok, found the right post on this and I have the right account showing my history here and that I am NOT A NOOB....
The Miata forum is also quite interested in what the details of this recall are and what it involves. Especially those that are interested in the rotary technology.
I am also curious since I haven't kept up in a while but was thinking about getting a used RX8 sometime in the next year to replace the original one I let go to get a new 2006 MX5 (yes I am a traitor but I do have my regrets...)
So can anyone summarize what is going on with the recall...???

Perhaps it wasn't a bad thing to sell the RX8 when I did. Got a good amount of money for it as well.
I have feeling though that mine would have probably been ok since I was pretty regular on maintenance and oil. Though it doesn't sound like that would have been the culprit of the problem.
So it's going to burn more oil now. I heard a side story regarding the cat converters being damaged as well, is there any truth to that...???
