"bring your car in to the dealer for your concerns, we want to help but wasting peoples time for no reason is foolish and you are labled as one of those guys reading on the net again. dealers have limitations and are not always the bad guy mazda has a warranty and policy manuel that is binding with the dealers franchise agreement"

I'm going to have to take exception to that also. Overall, I do think this is a great move the Mazda is making. I don't personally want to see my engine get pulled, but still a great move. And my last dealership experience was really good and I have zero complaints.

That said, every dealer is different. And from my many years of rotary experience, as a collective I don't believe the dealership network is properly equipped to service the RX line of cars. You say we're "those guys on the internet", fair enough. But until I'm proven otherwise on a dealer by dealer basis, you are to put it in polite terms, "the service departments that any rotary owner needs to avoid." From a few conversations I'm not sure some service managers could point out an engine rotor in a line-up.

At my 45K service last week, I learned of the "Black Box" the dealers are getting to perform the testing. I have had great service, and my tech believes my engine will pass. When I get more details, I'll post up.

It was kinda of nice to come back from lunch and not read through three new pages to see if there was any valuable information in them.

The sky fell and I have a crook in my neck. What's not valuable about that?

i have been gone since yesterday and i had 13 pages to read through....i don't think the dealers are misleading anyone...we just don't have the information on it yet...and i'ld rather say i don't know...which is true...than say something that might be wrong. Especially in this day and age when half the people out there are just looking for a reason to sue.

I'm with ya on that one, Jeff.
Well, maybe not my first engine failure, but eventually.
Once the car is closer to "old" - maybe 3 or 4 years.

Is this an example of Mazda's "white glove" treatment?

Gee, mine told me that they didn't have the full information yet, not that they had no clue.

It got maybe a 10-second mention on my news here about 10 minutes ago. Said they were voluntarily recalling all 04s and 05s due to a potential oil leak.

rx-8 recall

My eyes are bleeding from the first 35 pages or so, but I thought i'd post my own little situation and see if anyone had any thoughts or comments.

Got a 2005 Shinka back in March. probably the last one available - at least on the east coast anyway. love the color. Anyway, I only have about 4,500 miles on it.

I've had a couple problems.. with my battery, alarm, and ABS system. I also noticed that the oil light came on after about 1 1/2 months... (at which time i also discovered I didnt have an oil dipstick to check it, so i just had to put somein)Anyway, when i went to get my first oil change from my local gas station, after it was done the attendent said that i should get my rx-8 serviced because there was an issue with the pressure and when it got colder I would start losing power. He said that had worked for mazda in canada, and when my dealer told me I would need to manually add in oil every 2 fill-ups it was bullshit.

Now I hear about this recall. Could it be my oil change guy knows more about my car than my dealer?

The car has hardly any miles on it. i'm afraid i'll pass the test but run in to a problem down the line. I understand why a remanufactured engine isnt the best bet, but it would be better than keeping this one and finding out a year (or worse, a few years.. after warranty) that there was a major problem.

Oh, and the center console thing is loose. it's not broken, it's just loose. Is that normal? i can clamshell it up in the fully extended position (without pulling it back first). I wasnt' going to rush it in for that, but now it seems i have another reason. Has this happened for everyone? not really a big deal, but i'd rather it work how its supposed to work. also the spring button for the console seems a little lopsided and uneven... sort of what i'd expect out of my old pontiac.

Grr.

And I still love my car. :-(

My impression is that if it passes the vacume test, then the engine is OK and the new PCM update they apply (which changes the light throttle cruise oil metering) will keep it that way.

They gave me a new one. Didn't quesiton it either.

I get the impression it was a floor model and they might have taken it to give it to someone else.

you didnt notice the dipstick was missing for a month and a half? hav you read the owners manual? you dont know if it was a "floor" model or not? which dipstick did you get? the old one or the newer one?

we are getting off track here because nothing you have mentioned has anything to do with the recall. im just in shock.

It sounds like between the dipstick and the center console thing your car sat in a showroom and had a lot of people fingering it. The dealer owes you a console.

You waited a month and a half to even check your oil?
